She pointed out that in a time <br />when Church attendance has been dropping, the Sutter Avenue Presbyterian <br />Church has been growing rapidly~ their Sunday School now has an enrollment <br />of about 400. <br /> <br />Answering an inquiry by Councilman Lieberman, ~. Ochs said they will abide <br />by ~ny conditions set forth by the City Plan Commission in the way of the <br />property, etc. He discussed the nature of some of the work and charitable <br />deeds which they engage in. <br /> <br />Upon inquiry by ~ayor Kaufman whether any member of the public wants to be <br />heard on this matter, there was no response. <br /> <br />Councilman Glickert said she doubts that anyone in that area would object to <br />the issuance of the Conditional Use Permit because of the good work being <br />done by this Church, and it will certainly result in a great physical im- <br />provement over what exists there now. <br /> <br />Councilman Glickert, who it was learned, had been born in the house at 6505 <br />Bartmer, moved that the Conditional Use Permit be approved, llotion was <br />seconded by Councilman Liebarman, and unanimously carried. <br /> <br />Councilman Lieberman said he believes the record should reflect that the <br />Council feels that this Church in the past, present and in the future will <br />be a great asset to this Community. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING - IIcKi~IGHT COI~}~IY: <br />As it was not yet 8:00 P.I-i., this matter was deferred until that time. <br />(See page <br /> <br />PROPOSAL BY PEOPLE TO PEOPLE CItAPTER - TREE PLAi-YfIi{G PROGRA~.t.' <br /> <br />City ilanager Henry stated that request has been made by People to People to <br />establish a long term tree planting project or urban arboretum in some <br />location in University City. This would involve a programwhere all the <br />types of street trees used in University City would be planted in a single <br />area to be used as a display site for persons interested in trees. He said <br />that People to People would pay for the trees. It would serve to recognize <br />the various countries wino have participated in the People to People movement <br />with University City. Ee said that }ir. Kohlenberger, Director of Parks, <br />Recreation mhd Forestry, and Mr. L. ttensler~ City Forester, met with repre- <br />sentatives of People to People and it was agreed that a good site might be <br />located along the pathway running on the north side of the River des Peres <br />from the back of the pool to the tennis courts. Iir. Hensler had prepared a <br />report indicating the types of trees for the urban arboretum and the number <br />of planting spaces, which totals 40. This would be a project lasting over <br />a period of several years. <br /> <br />l~s. Arthur E. Carlson, 8023 Gannon Avenue, representing People to People, <br />said that this Chapter is a member of the President's Executive Committee <br />for the Centennial and is charged with doing something for the Bicentennial. <br />She discussed their tree planting proposal, and said they have not yet <br />settled all of the final details because they haven't take it to their <br /> <br /> <br />
