Practically <br />none of the speakers were opposed to the program, per se; they felt it was a <br />worthwhile endeavor~ but they were opposed to the location. }~. Shapiro <br />expressed the view that this particular apartment area can serve !~shington <br />University students very well insofar as housing, and it is "prime" location <br />that should be used for that purpose wherever possible. <br /> <br />In response to a question by Councilman Werner, ~. Schechter said that while <br />he cannot speak for the Agency, he believes the present tenants will not have <br />to vacate the premises until possibly sometime in September. Councilman <br />Werner asked what his position would be as to paying relocation expenses for <br />the tenants, lit. Schechter explained that they have a grant from the United <br />Fund and are subject to their rules and regulations, but he thinks that with- <br />in reason, whatever is necessary to make the transition a reasonable one <br />(and an easy one) could be handled. As to the sign, Councilman Warner asked <br />whether they intend to have a sign affixed to the building or a free-standing <br />sign and ~r. Schechter answered that what they propose is shown on the applica- <br />tion and he added that their application is ~ubject to what rules and regula- <br />tions the Council wishes to add as Conditions. <br /> <br />In response to an inquiry by Councilman Werner with regard to a house that <br />is situated in the backyard, }~r. Schechter explained that this is presently <br />utilized by a maintenance man for the building, and if the Conditicnal Use <br />Permit would allow YES to keep the same arrangement, they would do SOo Other- <br />wime, they would abide by the City~m requirement, whatever it might be. He <br />said (in reply to Councilman Weissenburger) that the building had been on the <br />market for sale through normal real estate channels. <br /> <br />Councilman Weissenburger~ at this Juncture, pointed out that the ~nutes of <br />the Council meeting held on June 9th indicate that this hearing was not to <br />go past 8~00 P.~., and he proposed that a meeting be scheduled for next I~on- <br />day in order to give other~ who are here an opportunity to be heard at that <br />time° (It was now 8:35 P.I.i.) (See Below) <br /> <br />RECESS: <br /> <br />At 8:40 P.I~., I~ayor Kaufman called for a brief recems and at 8:45 P.I~. the <br />Council reconvened. <br /> <br />It was agreed that the public hearing be continued to next ~onday night, at <br />7:30 PoI~o, at which time, }~yor ~aufman said, the Council will reach a de- <br />cisiono <br /> <br />Councilman Weissenburger asked the City ~nager to prepare an analysis of <br />the effect that Boys Town has had on the neighborhood, where they are located. <br /> <br />BIDS - I~ROV~.~ICf OF NORT~OOR DRIVE FROI,! BIG BEND BO~EV.~RD TO THE WEST: <br /> <br />City l~nager Henry reviewed bids which had been received for the improvement <br />of Northmoor Drive from Big Bend to the west. tie said this project is <br />partially funded as a budget item in the amount of $15,000.00 with the balance <br />of $10~000 to be derived from Community Development funds. The total amount <br />to be expended of $25,000.00 will allow for additional work on Northmoor by <br />the contractor° <br /> <br />The administrative forces recommended that the contract be awarded to <br />Tribco Concrete Construction, Inc., in the amount of $21,642.00, this being <br /> <br /> <br />
