Upon vote, the <br />motion unanimously carried. <br /> <br />BIDS - REFUSE COLLECTION UNITS: <br />The City Fmnager stated bid proposals have been received for the four <br />packer trucks used by the sanitation division and he reviewed bids for <br />the refuse collection units, and explained that there is another reason <br />for deferring action on these bodies - that is, that the Loadmaster people <br />did not come in to demonstrate their equipment until today, after the <br />agenda itemwas written. He said there are certain attachments which were <br />not on the truck which the staff would like to see, namely, how it performs <br />in picking up refuse boxes. Accordingly, consideration was postponed. <br /> <br />BIDS - _REFUSE COLLECTION TP, UCXS: <br />The City ~ianager briefly reviewed bids which had been received for the <br />four packer trucks to be used by the Sanitation Division and recommended <br />that the contract be awarded to Roedel Brothers Inc. for an International <br />in the amount of $30,560, which was the lowest and best bid. He said that <br />delivery of the trucks takes from 90 to 120 days of receipt of order and if <br />the City is to continue with the collection service then the Council ought <br />to go ahead and order the trucks regardless of the bodies. He said this <br />brings up the question whether to try to get bids from contractors before <br />proceeding with bids on this. <br /> <br />Councilman Werner moved that the matter he tabled for a couple of weel~. <br /> <br />City Manager Henry pointed out that it costs the City money every day and <br />again Councilman Werner expressed the view that this is a matter which <br />should be given a great deal of thought, and in his opinion, it is a <br />matter ~.~ich should be tabled and the City should get over-all bids from <br />the contractors so that comparisons can be made. He again moved that the <br />matter be tabled. <br /> <br />Discussion followed and the City D~anager answered questions. <br />councilman gri~ seconded Councilman Werner's motion. <br /> <br />Councilman Glickert called attention to an article which had appeared in <br />yesterday's Post Dispatch with regard to refuse collections and their <br />projection of going up in price because of leaf collections in the Fall. <br /> <br />l. lr. A. B. Dieckgraefe, Director of Public Works, was invited to comment. <br />He said two of the trucks that are being replaced are the old sideloaders <br />and they cannot possibly be worked into any d~strict that has containers <br />and this create~ a matter of inflexibility so far as service is concerned. <br />He further pointed out that when a truck is down, which is happening fre- <br />quently, it is necessary to work the men overtime. <br /> <br />Councilman Lieberman expressed the view that City Manager Henry has a valid <br /> <br /> <br />
