He said it was not clear how the rn.nnber of trucks entering from <br />Westgate could be restricted or policed. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus opened the public hearing at 8:07 p.m. <br /> <br />Mr. Tom Goodman, treasurer of MASCO st. Louis, said the canpany wants to IOCWe <br />its south st. IDuis facility to its University City location, am exterrl the <br />warehouse. Because of the way the plant is set up, the large pieces of steel <br />used in the manufacturing process must be brought in on the east side of the <br />building, he said, am it was next to i.Irpossible to use the west side (66th <br />street) or Ven10n Avenue for this pw:pose. <br /> <br />In response to Mr. Schoomer, Mr. Goodman said operating hours are 7:00 a.m. <br />to about 5:00 p.m. The Mayor asked about early norning deliveries, am Mr. <br />Goodman said the company could regulate them. <br /> <br />Ms. Elsie Glickert, 6712 Etzel, said she could not imagine large trucks using <br />Westgate--it defeats the purpose of the urban renewal plan am would certain- <br />ly ham the residential quality of life in this area. Mayor Majerus said the <br />request was made because MASCO wants to exparrl its plant to the east am in- <br />stall a door where trucks can unload. Mrs. Glickert said she was happy the <br />business was doing so well, but felt this would do great ham to the area. <br /> <br />Responding to Mr. .Adams, Mr. Goodman said all deliveries except for the flat <br />plate steel would continue as before, on the west side. He said when drivers <br />with plate steel reach the dock on the west side, they will be instructed to <br />go back to Olive and then down Westgate to the new entrance. <br /> <br />There were no other requests to speak, and Mayor Majerus closed the p..1blic <br />hearing at 8:16 p.m. <br /> <br />Ms. Mary Fahey, Executive Director of the UCRA, said Council must ask that an <br />ordinance be prePared if it wants this change; otherwise, it need do nothing. <br /> <br />Mayor Majerus asked that Council not request the preparation of a bill at <br />this time. However, Mr. Schoomer said it will be possible for Council to <br />thoroughly discuss this matter if the legiSlation is introduced at the next <br />meeting, an:l he requested that an appropriate bill be prePared. <br /> <br />REAL ESTATE SERVICFS - FORMER ENGINE HOUSE #2 <br /> <br />The City Manager said the City solicited proposals fram real estate conpani.es <br />to sell fonner Engine House #2 at 6970 Olive. The station was closed after <br />it was found the floor would not support heavy fire trucks over a pericxl of <br />time am the city could not afford the cost of repairs. He said the building <br />is architecturally significant an:l could be very attractive for many other <br />uses. Three conpani.es resporrled to the city's inquiries, am he reconunended <br />aa:::eptance of the Hilliker Company, based primarily on its recent sua:::essful <br />experience at marketing properties in that neighbo:rhocxl. <br /> <br />Mr. .Adams IOCWed approval, am Mr. Price secorrled the notion. All voted Aye. <br />
