Session 1577, Minutes
september 14, 1992

Page 9

problems. She thought na;t of the traffic would be walk-in.

Mrs. Schuman asked if washington University could be recontacted about park-
ing. Applicant Mike Morrison, 5817 Nina Place, said a representative told
him the University had plans for a a::mnercial developnent on that corner, and
it would be premature to lease parking there. He was also told they planned
to nove their administrative offices into the old F'aIooUs-Barr building; that,
plus student parking on the site, made the applicants think it was a good lo-
cation for the coffee shop because of the large am::>UI1t of walk-by traffic.

Mayor Majerus said parking and traffic have been problems in that area for
many years and while she greatly liked the concept, it was not appropriate at
that location.

Mrs. Schuman said this was an extremely well-thought out proposal that would
fit well in a neighbortlood such as the one on Li.rrle11, however, neighbors do
not take kirxlly to people parking in front of their h01OOS, which would happen
because of the lack of parking. She felt this concept could be very success-
ful in the right location and suggested tabling the matter.

Mayor Majerus said she would be happy to speak with a w~n University
representative about this proposal.

Mr. Michael Marvaso, 530 N. Union, the third applicant, asked if that meant
using the same location, but have the use of Washin:3ton university parking.
Mayor Majerus said she was referring to use of the fo:rmer UNICEF building
which she thinks will be renovated by the University.

Mrs. Schuman noved to table. Mr. Wagner secorrled the notion, which carried
unanilrously.

RENOVATIONS 'ID CITY' HALL EIEVA'IOR

Mr. Goldman said on July 27, 1992, Council approved the IkJver Elevator bid of
$12,727 to furnish and install a fire/security alann system and automatic
hookup to the Police DepartnYant security system, and inplenent the Americans
with Disabilities Act (Am.) revisions to the City Hall elevator. original
bids were based on labor costs for a nonnal W"Ork day, but na;t of the eleva-
tor work must be done when it is out of sel:Vice, maki.nJ it difficult to ac-
connnodate employees and the public. 'Iherefore, it was recamnerrled that an
additional $3,036 in labor costs be approved to perfo:nn the revisions on an
overtime basis after nonnal W"Orking hours. othet:Wise, the elevator would be
out of sel:Vice for at least a week.

Mr. Price noved approval and Mrs. 'lhatp;on sec::onjed the notion.

Mr. Schoaner returned to the meeting at this time (8:40 p.m.)

Respon:ling to Mrs. Schuman, Mr. Goldman said all of the original bids includ-
ed only work done during regular business hours, not any overtime.

All voted Aye.
