She wants to have
outdoor dining, which is an :inp)rtant feature of her present restaurant. She
also wanted to continue cany-out sel:Vice. Mayor Majerus said that corrlition
iltplies that if a major portion of the business became cany-out, it would
not be pennitted without a c:ordi.tional use pennit.

Mr. Adam:; recalled that the previous operator was never given pennission to
have outdoor dining. Mr. Ollernorff confinned that tables had been put out
illegally. He also noted that most of the corrlitions to which Ms. washington
was objecting were i~ on the current occupant.

Mr. Al Goldman, Director of Planning, said the awlication irrlicated there
would be no entertainment am the stage would be rem:wed. He said a corrli-
tion i.np:>sed on the fonner occupant stated that live entertainment would not
be pennitted if it caused a negative iltpact on parking or center facilities.
Also, the site plan was tied to the fonner operator, Ms. Albertine'Iharpson,
am any dlange in operation required a new site plan. He said outdoor dining
was not approved, am Ms. 'Iharpson was so advised when that was fOUI'Xl being
done. He said the current proposal for outdoor dining takes the entire side-
walk except for a small path, in addition to extending into the parking lot.

In response to Mr. Adams, Mr. Goldman said he was not aware of past parking
problems caused by allowing live entertainment at this site. However, Mr.
Ollernorff said the present operator draws croYJds about a fourth as large as
those at Hadley's.

Mr. Price thought Hadley's should be allowed the same privilege of live en-
tertainment as the present operator.

Mrs. 'Iharpson agreed, adding she did not un:ierstarrl why outdoor dining would
not be pennitted. Mr. Goldman said he would not object to three tables, as
Ms. A. 'Iharpson had illegally, but Ms. washington was proposing space for at
least 32 patrons, with roam for 60, am taking over part of the parking lot.

Mr. Adams was concerned about daytime parking con:Jestion, when all the center
businesses were open. Also, with the sidewalk blocked off, those going from
one ern of the center to the other would have to walk in traffic lanes.

Mr. Price asked if there was a way to au.;ulllllOOate four tables without block-
ing the sidewalk. Mr. Goldman said three tables would be possible, but he
did not see how any lOOre could be used without going into the parking lot.

Mrs. Schuman expressed concern that the proposed outdoor dining area would
add many patrons while rem:wing parking spaces, making it very con:Jested at
lunch time.

Ms. washington noted that the sidewalk erxls at the Firestone store, am be-
cause of the way the buildin:J is arranged, the sidewalk in front of Hadley's
is not used for pedestrian traffic.

Mr. Schoamer suggested that entertairnnent at Hadley's be liInited to the hours
