Session 1726, Minutes ! |
June 29, 1998

report back to Council, and then the bills will be sent. Mr. Figueras was concerned that
the inspectors could inspect when the streets were covered with snow. Mr. Ollendorff
said inspection would occur continually during the construction. Responding to Mr.
Figueras, Mr. Ollendorff said that this contractor has a very good history on previous
work for the City.

Mr. OIlendorff said that the petition was for $500,000 and that the petitioners estimated
that the work would cost $500,000. Staff was not sure that the specified work could be
completed for that amount of money. The bids say that we can. The engineering and
legal work will cost another $35,000 to $40,000, leaving a few thousand dollars to get
up to that $500,000. State law allows the City to go over this amount by 25%, but the
City is not planning to do that. The sidewalks and all the curbs will bring the residents
way above the amount petitioned for.

Ms. Kay Rhoda, 6949 Cornell, said that the only thing she had not heard stated was
what type of materials would be used to pave the roads. Mr. Ollendorff said that
asphalt would be used for the street surface and concrete for the curbs. Ms. Rhoda
asked about reinforcement underneath these materials. Mr. Ollendorff said he would
check the specifications, but typically they do put reinforcing in the concrete curbing,
but not in the street surface. He will check and get back with her. Ms. Rhoda asked if it
would be similar to what is in front of City Hall now. Mr. Ollendorff said it would be like
the materials used on Trinity along side City Hall.

Mayor Adams declared the public hearing closed.

AGENDA #7: LIQUOR LICENSE PUBLIC HEARING - 6683 DELMAR:

Mr. Ollendorff recommended setting July 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers as
the time and place for a hearing on the application to sell alcoholic beverages of all
types by the drink at a new restaurant proposed for the recently constructed building at
6683 Delmar. The application is in order and the applicant's background is acceptable
for such a license. Waiving the waiting period is also acceptable since the restaurant
operates in many locations for a number of years demonstrating ability to manage liquor
sales. The applicant also has good experience in enforcing liquor laws.

Mr. Schoomer moved approval. Mr. Munkel seconded the motion, which carried
unanimously.

PERSONNEL REPORT:

Mayor Adams noted receipt of the personnel report for the week ending June 26, 1998.
