Session 1683, Minutes
November 18, 1996

Page 4

A fire door to the furnace room and a fire door to the exterior shall be installed. The furnace room
firewall shall be reinforced.

Mr. Wagner moved that this item be taken from the table. Mr. Schoomer seconded, and all voted Aye.

Mrs. Thompson moved approval, including all conditions, and Mr. Ware seconded.

In response to Mr. Munkel, Mr. Ollendorff said the changes added mean that the building now meets
state and city Fire Code requirements,

All voted Aye except Mr. Munkel, who voted Nay.

Mr. Schoomer noted that the name chosen for the day care is a sanctified Hebrew word that cannot be
used by Orthodox Jews in daily parlance. He said using this word is disrespectful and insulting to the
Orthodox Jewish community and he suggested that the operator consider choosing a different name.

The applicant, Ms. Judith Johnson, came forward and said she was not aware that the name was insulting
to Orthodox Jews, and that was certainly not her intent.

COMPUTER PURCHASES

The City Manager said bids were received from four companies for computer equipment, including
upgrades, networks, peripherals, and software for six departments. He recommended the following pur-
chases based on a combination of price, quality assurance, meeting specifications, and proven reliabililty:

Deputy City Manager:
Public Works:
Parks:
Parks:
Central Garage:
Police:
Purchasing:

Computer from ASI for $2,532
Computer from Executive Personal Computers for $1,148
Computer network systems hardware from Gateway 2000 for $11,606
Peripheral equipment from ASI for $6,581
Laptop from Global for $2,179 and scanner from ASI for $216
Laptop from ASI for $2,349
Printer from ASI for $937

Mr. Lieberman asked if training sessions came with this equipment. Mr. Ollendorff said in all but one
case, the equipment is add-on so no training is required; however, training will be needed for the new
Park Department system, and he will check to see if it is included and report back.

Mr. Schoomer moved approval as recommended. Mr. Munkel seconded the motion.

Mr. Munkel asked if the computers were compatible with one another. Mr. Ollendorff said the ones that
will be part of a network are.
