Regular meeting
September 19, 2005

Mayor Adams read a letter from Metro Mayors asking communities to sponsor a city
affected by hurricane Katrina. Ms. Welsch recommended approval for support and Ms.
Colquitt seconded approval. Mayor Adams said there would be fund raisers to fund
support. Mayor’s proposal received Council’s consensus.

Mr. Sharpe Jr. was glad to hear and support this action as he has had citizens ask him
what the City was doing in support of the hurricane victims.

CITIZEN COMMENTS ON NON-AGENDA ITEMS:

Nova Felton, 8031 Noel Ct.
Would like to question the Planning Commission hearing on the “Chicken Ordinance”
that did not have any representation from the third ward. She wanted the Ordinance
repealed.

Fred Atwood, 710 Berick Dr.
He wanted the Council to know of how he became a victim of crime on May 29, 2005.
He was basically looking for advice or help because he did not know where to go. The
crime was from a Spanish person who did not speak English. It is his understanding
that he was not a citizen and lived in a two bedroom apartment with four other people.
Mr. Atwood wanted to know what businesses do for a check of citizenship, when they
hire people obviously of another nationality and what kind of a check is there on how
many people are residing at an apartment.

Jen Jenson, 706 Pennsylvania Ave.
Ms. Jenson sent a letter on August 8, 2005, signed by Chair Person of Prop K and its
members, outlining their concerns about the naming of the Recreation Facility. The
Prop K Committee asked for the sequence of events that lead up to the Centennial
Commons’ name being adopted and the validation that the City Council actually
approve this. The Prop K Committee found the name unacceptable for now and future
generations. On August 17, Mr. Ollendorff responded to her in a letter addressed to
her, as a private citizen, and not to the Prop K Committee, stating that it was too late
now to make changes in the many commitments made. Prop K Committee was
disappointed in that the Committee only received responses from two Councilmembers
and Mr. Ollendorff.

Elsie Glickert, 6712 Etzel.
She is part of the Prop K Committee too that objected to the name given the Community
Center. She said that the name of the project creates an image. She felt the name is
associated with Senior Citizens and would not correctly represent the purpose and use
of the Community Center.

Page 10
