Thus, if we are
unsuccessful at the PSC, there is no way for the City to reduce its AmerenUE bill and
We are planning on a 20% reduction
energy usage unless it decommissions lighting.
in street lighting.
With funds received under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation
Block Grant (federal stimulus), we are hiring an engineering assistant to map all of the
City’s streetlights to help develop the plan for decommissioning. The first lights to be
considered will be those along the Olive Street commercial corridor. We may also ask
private subdivisions to begin taking over the costs of the streetlights in their
subdivisions. We have sent a letter notifying them about the program status. The letter
is attached. Until we map all the streetlights, we will not know how many lights are in
question. We expect the mapping to take place through the spring.
The Sutter-Meyer Society, a 501 (c)(3) organization, is converting the Sutter-Meyer
Farmhouse into a community museum that will focus on the history of University City,
Sutter-Meyer
St. Louis County and the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. At the
Society’s annual meeting on Tuesday, January 19,
supporters will hear from Sarah
Umlauf, a University City resident who is also the Community Resource Coordinator for
the City of Clayton. Umlauf will share her experiences in working with an older
farmhouse through her talk “Honoring Our Past - Restoration of the Historic Hanley
House". The Sutter-Meyer Society hopes to collaborate in the future with the Hanley
House and other historic homes in the St. Louis area. Inviting Ms. Umlauf to speak at
this annual meeting is the first step in what the Sutter-Meyer Society hopes will be a
long-term collaborative relationship. The Society will also hold the final drawing in its
annualRadishes to Riches Raffle, a raffle designed to honor the farming heritage of the
Sutter-Meyer house. Tickets are $10 each. If all tickets are sold, the grand prize will be
$1,873, in honor of the year the farmhouse was built. The meeting will be held on
Tuesday, January 19 at the Julia Goldstein Early Childhood Center, 737 Kingsland
Avenue. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Program starts at 7:00 PM. For more information or
tickets call Shelley Welsch 727-6825 or email suttermeyersociety@ucitymo.com
The St. Louis County Division of Homeless Services will be conducting a census of our
Saturday, January 23
homeless residents on .
