Session 1710, Minutes
November 3, 1997

PRESENTATION - HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION:

Mr. Paul Marsh, chairman of the Historic Preservation Commission, wished to
report to Council on what had been done with the money given to them over the
last few years and to also thank them for their support. Two years ago the
Commission had applied for two grants, one of which was to prepare a national
register nomination for the Maryland Terrace subdivision, the other grant was to
develop and write a historic significance book about University City. The Maryland
Terrace grant is expected to be approved by the State with a recommendation to
the Department of the Interior that the subdivision be granted National Register
status. Univers/ty C/ty Landmarks and H/stor/c P/aces is the title of the historic
significance book spoken of earlier. The Commission wanted to show, not only the
landmarks of University City, but also areas of historic interest and architectural
interest. Judy Little authored the book, and many commission members and city
staff helped them see it to fruition.

Ms. Judy Little said that this project helped her realize that the City and Council
had such a tremendous responsibility in making the decisions that effect the
makeup of the City. She felt that the City really has done an excellent job planning
and building a first rate city, which is evident throughout the City.

CITY MANAGER'S REPORTS:

CONSENT CALENDAR (5 ITEMS):

# I - Baseball Backstops for Heman Park: Bids have been received to provide two
baseball backstops for Heman Park. $8,000 was budgeted for this purchase. Dump truck. $5,800 was budgeted for this equipment.
Five vendors were invited to respond with the following results:
