Community organizations Media (SCA News) Strategies Implemented: Mailing last year to all large rental management companies to avoid spring renovations, and hence vacant units for the Census Last year the map assessments to ensure all streets are included in the map this year Installation of banners at City Hall, Heman Park, various parks, library Post notice on community bulletin boards Post information on the City’s website, include a link to the Census Bureau website Post flyers and posters in various locations around City Hall, the library and other public facilities Distribute flyers to partners Distribute flyers with trash bill Speak at neighborhood and other community meetings Have flyers available at public meetings (City Council, etc.) Send out e-mail blasts and use social networking sites Include Census information with occupancy permit packet Include Census messages with digital communications – City Manager’s weekly, City Council e-mails and other far-reaching e-newsletters Add to City staff e-mail signatures The quicker residents return their forms the less money is needed by the Census attempting to track residents down. If you did not receive a form or have lost it, forms are available at the University City Library or in the City Clerk’s office. U. City Kids Take A Stand For Play weekend ! The Flynn Park PTO is calling all U. City kids to “Take A Stand” for Play by hosting a stand of your choice – it could be lemonade, cookies, dog washing, fortune telling, jewelry, pet rocks… Whatever you choose, have fun and be creative! On Saturday, April 24 & Sunday, April 25 put up your stand and sell your items to help raise money for a new playground. The University City Parks and Recreation Department is applying for a $350,000 grant from the Municipal Park Grant Commission (www.muniparkgrants.org) to build a “WOW” neighborhood park destination in Flynn Park. One of the requirements of the grant is that our community raise 10% matching funds - $35,000. ALL proceeds of U. City Kids “Take A Stand” for Play weekend will go towards meeting this goal. Put your thinking cap on, team up with your friends, spread the word, and pick a fabulous location. Have a goal. We are offering personalized bricks for $250 donations and personalized brass plaques for $1,000 donations… so dream big.
