Checks should be made payable to Memorial Day Run. <br />Public Works is in the final stages of MSD reviewing/approval of the plans for <br />compost operationRuth Park Woods <br />improvements to the in . The costs for the <br />improvements are covered under the 319 Water Quality grant. The plan includes <br />drainage ditches, improvements to the access drive, drainage structures and a bio <br />retention basin. MSD has given us preliminary approval of the plans. Final approval is <br />anticipated after the City completes a maintenance agreement and prepares hydraulic <br />calculations. The project engineer from Jacobs Engineering is in the process of <br />preparing the required documents. After MSD approval, the City will forward the <br />information to the Department of Natural Resources for review and approval. The City <br />will then obtain bids for construction of the project. City staff met with the Green Center, <br />Missouri Coalition for the Environment and the River Des Peres Watershed Coalition to <br />review the plans and included their input. They are looking forward to the <br />improvements. <br />To assist in reducing stormwater run off in the Deer Creek Watershed, MSD is planning <br />8 rain gardens <br />to install in the 8300 blocks of Cornell and Gannon Ave. The project is <br />scheduled for this fall, 2010. MSD is coordinating directly with the property owners <br />regarding temporary easements and maintenance agreements for the rain gardens. <br />This is a pilot program and a combined effort between MSD (implementation) <br />Washington University ( monitoring the efficiency of the garden); Shaw Nature <br />Reserve/Botanical Garden (consulting for horticulture –native plant selection and <br />maintenance) and the Deer Creek Watershed Coalition (Carla Wilson, communicator). <br /> Mike WarmboldJason <br />Congratulationsto Parks and Recreation employees, and <br />Baucom, <br /> who just successfully completed their Certified Pool Operators course. <br />Community Development Department <br />The is hosting a series of workshops to <br />provide insight into the various codes, activities and regulations administered by the <br />Department. The workshops will be held on Tuesday from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at <br />Heman Park Community Center, 975 Pennsylvania Avenue. All are invited to attend <br />these free workshops. The following workshops are scheduled:May 11-Building and <br />ZoningCodesEconomic <br />Property Maintenance Codes; September 14-; January 11- <br />DevelopmentAnimal Control and Environmental Inspections <br />; May 10-; and <br />Comprehensive Planning. <br />September 13- <br />seventeen new public access Internet computers <br />The library has just installed . <br />These computers were purchased with a $14,000 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates <br />Foundation. The library was required to match a percentage of the grant and <br />successfully raised the needed $4,550 from individual donors’ contributions, memorial <br />gifts, and fundraising by the Friends of the Library. In addition, the library received a <br />$2,460 LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant from the Missouri State <br />Library to fund 75% of the cost of a new printer for these public access Internet <br />computers. Library patrons now have fast new computers to use apply for jobs; keep in <br />touch with family and friends through email and social networks; and use for other <br /> <br />
