Session 1317, Minutes Page 6
October 25, 1982

Mrs. Thompson said she thoroughly agreed with Mrs. Metcalfe, and suggested that
councilmembers look into the schedule of tree planting in their own areas, and try
to evaluate whether the trees selected for a certain area were appropriate for that
area.
Mr. Ollendorff said the Council could take as much time as it felt it needed to in-
vestigate this matter, in terms of discussing overall philosophy or even for the
evaluation of individual trees for a particular location.

Mr. Schoomer said he would not want the Council to undertake a discussion in which
every tree location was discussed, and he expressed confidence in the decisions
made by the staff. He moved approval of the low bidder, A. Waldbart, and asked
that the City Manager prepare an informal briefing for the Council on the princi-
ples used in the selection of trees for planting in the City. Mr. Levy seconded
the motion. All voted Aye except Mrs. Metcalfe and Mrs. Thompson, who voted Nay.
Mr. Ollendorff said he would prepare a report prior to the next meeting.
CONSIDERATION OF TREE PRUNING BIDS

The City Manager said the City solicited bids from seventeen area contractors for
pruning City-owned trees, with the following results:

Alcrest Tree Service $15,877
Top Tree Service $16,250
Custom Tree & Lawn Service $18,005
Davey Tree Expert Co. $22,685
Shield Shade Tree $22,960
Botanical Tree Service $23,450
Branham Tree Service $50,000
Mr. Ollendorff recommended that the award be made to Alcrest Tree Service in the
amount of $15,877, which would include a budget transfer of $877 from the Contin-
gency account since only $15,000 was budgeted for this service.
Mr. Levy moved approval.
