Mr. <br /> Schoomer seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> August 16, 1982 <br /> Mr. Adams moved that the minutes of the special meeting of August 16, 1982 be ap- <br /> proved as received. Mr. Levy seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> APPOINTMENTS <br /> <br /> Mrs. Thompson moved that Mr. Charles Foxworth, 6852 Julian, be appointed to the <br /> Traffic Commission for a term expiring January 21, 1983. Mr. Lieberman seconded <br /> the motion, which carried unanimously. <br /> Mrs. Metcalfe said it was appropriate to reappoint to the University City Committee <br /> for Access and Local Origination Programming (CALOP) the four members whose terms <br /> expired September 9, 1982. Mayor Mooney moved the reappointments of Mr. Larry <br /> Brown, 7344 Stanford; Mrs. Marian Flowers, 7285 Creveling; Mr. Sterling Lands, 6943 <br /> Roberts; and Mr. Stuart Plattner, 7462 Cornell for terms which all expire Septem- <br /> ber 9, 1983. Mr. Adams seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. <br /> CITY MANAGER'S AGENDA <br /> <br /> CONSENT CALENDAR (TWO ITEMS) <br /> <br /> Consideration of Solicitation Permit for University City Knights of Columbus 01). <br /> The University City Knights of Columbus Post 42233, 7105 Olive Street Road, filed <br /> an application for permission to have ten to sixteen voluntary workers solicit funds <br /> on October 22, 23 and 24, 1982. The volunteers, who will be stationed at retail es- <br /> tablishments where prior permission of the owners has been obtained, will be offer- <br /> ing candy in exchange for a contribution made to benefit a mental retardation pro- <br /> gram. Approval was recommended. <br /> _Parkview Gardens Street Closings (462). The City Manager recommended that the sub- <br /> Ject of limited street closings in the Parkview Gardens area be referred to the <br /> Traffic Commission and the staff for study. The matter was studied several years <br /> ago, with recommendations made for certain closings in order to improve the quali- <br /> ty of the neighborhood. For various reasons, these proposals were either tabled or <br /> defeated. There was now renewed interest on the part of area residents and property <br /> owners, along with continued staff belief that such actions would be very beneficial <br /> to the neighborhood. There has been some opposition from both people within and <br /> outside the neighborhood, and therefore, the matter needed careful study. <br /> Mr. Lieberman moved approval of the Consent Calendar.
