<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Session 1303, Minutes Page 2 <br /> April 26, 1982 <br /> <br /> <br /> Mr. Lieberman said Mr. Sabol epitomized the dedicated person of University City, <br /> one with the highest integrity who represented his district extremely well-and who <br /> is a credit to his community and his constituents. <br /> Mrs. Thompson stated that she would greatly miss Mr. Sabol, and that he demonstrat- <br /> ed the kind of integration and cooperative spirit which should be displayed on the <br /> Council and throughout the City. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Metcalfe said she had enjoyed serving with Mr. Sabol very much and sincerely <br /> hoped he would make himself available to serve the City again. <br /> At this time, Mayor Mooney presented a life-time pass to University City park facil- <br /> ities to Mr. Sabol and his family. Mr. Sabol expressed his gratitude, stating that <br /> he had very much enjoyed working with the other members of the Council and that he <br /> appreciated the kind words being said this evening. He said he would always be <br /> with the Council in spirit. There was a round of applause. <br /> OATHS OF OFFICE <br /> <br /> In a brief ceremony, the City Clerk administered the oath of office to Mayor Mooney, <br /> re-elected as Mayor. Mayor Mooney then administered the oaths of office to Mrs. <br /> Cynthia Metcalfe, re-elected as councilmember from the First Ward; Mr. Marvin B. <br /> Levy, elected as councilmember from the First Ward (to fill the last two years of <br /> a four-year term); Mr. Paul Schoomer, elected as councilmember from the Second <br /> Ward; and Mr. Lawrence Lieberman, re-elected as councilmember from the Third Ward. <br /> Some members of the families of the newly elected and re-elected councilmembers <br /> were present and were asked to stand and be introduced to the audience. Mrs. Ruth <br /> Sabol was also asked to stand. There was a round of applause. <br /> <br /> Mayor Mooney then called the meeting to order and the new Council was seated. The <br /> City Clerk called the role and the following members of the Council were present: <br /> Mr. Lawrence Lieberman <br /> Mr. Joseph L. Adams, Jr. <br /> Mrs. Cynthia Metcalfe <br /> Mr. Marvin B. Levy <br /> Mr. Paul E. Schoomer <br /> Mrs. Betty L. Thompson <br /> RECEPTION FOR MRS. CORETTA SCOTT KING <br /> <br /> Mayor Mooney announced that a reception sponsored by the University City Commission <br /> on Human Relations for Mrs. Coretta Scott King, widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. <br /> will be held at the Community Center on Friday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. King, <br /> chairperson of the Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta, Georgia, will be <br /> visiting St. Louis for several days. Mayor Mooney noted that Councilmember Thomp- <br /> son and Rev. Sterling Lands had been very instrumental in bringing Mrs. King to St. <br /> Louis. <br />
