its use. Mr. Pace said he did not understand the need for interchangeability from the stand <br />point of rescue. Mr. Pace also reminded Council that on May 3, 2010 the budget was <br />amended to purchase a new fire pumper and to date no bids have been presented to <br />Council. At that time it was a dire and urgent need. The Fleet study recommends replacing <br />fire pumpers at 125,000 miles. The City’s truck to be replaced had 49,000 miles on it last <br />year. <br /> <br />In reference to Mr. Pace’s comments Ms. Ricci asked Mr. Walker if he had an opportunity to <br />speak to Mr. Pace and the fire department. <br /> <br />Mr. Walker said he did not have a discussion with Mr. Pace but did with the Fire Chief and is <br />relying on the Fire Chief’s expertise that it is required for public safety and training reasons. <br /> <br />Mr. Sharpe wanted to be sure that the Fire Chief feels this is something that is necessary <br />and the Chief explained the need which the City Manager accepted. Mr. Walker agreed. <br /> <br />Mr. Crow said the Council would be better served if a member of the staff were present who <br />could actually justify the need. He thought it would be a good protocol that a staff member <br />be present when a request is made to justify the expense and the rationale behind it. <br /> <br />Ms. Ricci noted that this item could be rescheduled and asked the City Manager if he would <br />like to reschedule it. <br /> <br />The City Manager said that if Councilmembers would like more of an explanation he will <br />have the Fire Chief attend the next Council meeting to discuss it <br /> <br />Mr. Price and Mr. Sharpe withdrew their motion for approval. The consideration for approval <br />of a new rescue tool will be discussed at the next Council meeting. <br /> <br />The Mayor asked members of the community if they have thoughts and comments on <br />agenda items, prior to a meeting, to share them with the Council ahead of time so they can <br />do some research prior to the meeting. She said that Council always appreciates citizens’ <br />comments and research into the issues as they are extra pairs of eyes and ears for the <br />Council. <br /> <br />2. <br />Liquor License application for East East Grocery, 8619 Olive. <br />Mr. Glickert moved for approval and was seconded by Mr. Kraft. <br /> <br />Mr. Sharpe asked if this would be the selling of package liquor. Mr. Sharpe said that was <br />correct. He said he did not have a problem with selling liquor by the drink but did have a <br />problem with flat out selling package liquor. <br /> <br />Ms. Ricci said her understanding was that the package liquor sale was less than 25 percent <br />of the grocery sales and that it included international items such as rice wine. <br /> <br />Mr. Walker stated that on the liquor license it indicates that it is not more than 22 percent . <br /> <br />Mr. Glickert said he visited East East Grocery to discuss this application. He said he felt <br />fairly confident that it should be approved because the reason was for the sale of the red <br />wine vinegar, which is a staple in Chinese recipes and this would give them the opportunity <br /> <br /> 3 <br /> <br />
