Project Status
1. Digital City Remix: Mr. Friedman reported that the product was finished. Mr.
Riggs stated that the film meets technical requirements, but may have copyright
issues. The grantee told Mr. Nickels that he had rights to use the material in
question; the grantee will be asked to provide documentation. It was determined
that the commission needs to absolve itself. There was discussion regarding fair
use and how it is substantiated. Mr. Friedman will request releases relating to the
film, which must be provided by the filmmaker prior to receiving payment. There
needs to be a legal opinion as to CALOP’s responsibility level when the
producer, not CALOP, shows the film. A copy of the film will be provided to
Petree Eastman, Assistant to the City Manager, for review. Discussion was also
held on whether CALOP was eligible for legal representation/insurance coverage
through the City. Ms. Mullin has a letter from the City Attorney explaining that
CALOP is eligible for legal representation and insurance coverage through the
City and will provide a copy for the minutes. The commission will review the film.
2. Sutter Meyer House – Some filming has been done and footage is available.
3. A Portrait of Edward Dowling SJ – The film may be finished by the end of
summer.
4. Elijah Parish Lovejoy Society – This film may be done by the end of the summer.
5. William Clark: Aftermath of Glory – There is a problem with the contract, but it will
be resolved. The filmmaker is moving along with the project and has cuts.
8. Sewer Runs Through It – The project is going okay. Research is being continued.
Some taping and footage has been completed.
9. A Different Way of Life – No report.
10. Old St. Ferdinand Shrine Pioneers to Present – Some reenactment has been
shot and interviews held.
11. Wehrenberg Theatres’ First 100 Years – No report yet.
12. The Monument in Skip Berger’s Garage – The filmmaker has not been contacted
yet.
13. Knock, Knock America – The film is in the editing process. It ma be done by the
end of summer.
14. Johnnie Be Good – Bruce Hornsby has agreed to be involved in the
documentary. A tribute to Johnnie Johnson will be held at the Argosy Casino,
where clips of the documentary will be shown at the tribute.
15. Mississippi Ironclads – Production has slowed down. The B-roll is roughed in
and will be submitted soon. May have the project in a month.
16. Oral History Project – Phone calls to prospective interviewees are being made.

Mr. Nickels discussed a suggestion made by Jim Kirchherr that grantees come back in
for a presentation at the third installment to tell where they are and discuss any issues.
