<br />March Park Commission Minutes <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />Department Report <br />Ms. MacCartney reported: 1.) Flynn Park Tennis Courts bids came in lower than expected, <br />construction to begin soon; 2.) Flynn Park Playground – committee is working on fund raising <br />and design for fall municipal grant application; 3.) Ruth Park Trail Grant has been awarded - <br />$25,000 from City, $375,000 from Great Rivers Greenway and $100,000 from state of Missouri; <br />4.) NEA Grant – awaiting notice on if we will be selected to submit for final grant. <br /> <br />Prior to the individual park reports, President Sykes asked new commission member, Gwendolyn <br />Gaines-Beckwith to introduce herself and briefly provide her personal history. Ms. St. Clair <br />provided a brief overview of the individual park reporting process. <br /> <br />Individual Park Reports <br />With two new members to Park Commission, park assignments slightly changed. New park <br />assignments are as follows: Ms. Gaines-Beckwith: Majerus, Kingsland and Eastgate; Mr. Fields: <br />Metcalf and Ackert; Mr. Sweeney: Flynn, Lewis and Northmoor; President Sykes: Kaufman and <br />Mona Terrace; and Ms. St. Clair: Millar, Rabe and Ruth Park Woods <br /> <br />Mr. Sweeney reported Metcalf Park is very muddy; he is working with Park Maintenance <br /> <br /> <br />Superintendent, Ewald Winker on a project for Majerus Park (will share information with <br />Ms. Gaines-Beckwith after meeting since this is now her park); spoke with several mothers <br />visiting Lewis Park with the children – concern raised regarding safety of pond, one child <br />asked what happened to the turtle once residing there?; Flynn Park – no complaints. <br /> <br />Ms. Dille reported Heman Park is in good shape; noticed heavy usage this evening <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Ms. Palmer reported Mooney Park is in need of additional mulch under large swings, <br /> <br /> <br />railroad ties need replacing, iron fencing is “wobbly” in a few areas, large limb is loose in <br />trees west of the playground. <br /> <br />Ms. St. Clair reported both Rabe Park and Millar Park are in good shape, with heavy usage <br /> <br /> <br />in Millar Park; raised question regarding lack of fencing behind Jack Buck Field (along <br />River Des Peres) – department may need to consider replacement. <br /> <br />President Sykes reported Kaufman Park is about the same-looks good; Mona Terrace – <br /> <br /> <br />due to erosion, a large tree has fallen into the River Des Peres, has noticed tree trimming <br />occurring more frequently. <br /> <br />In Mr. Fitch’s absence, Mr. Sweeney reported Ruth Park Golf Course looks good. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Page | 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
