.

.

August 25, 1993 Plan Commission Meeting Minutes Page 6

Beverly Wolff, 700 Oakbrook, stated that she wants the access road to remain open. However,
it should be upgraded, made more safe and should be landscaped. She is against making the
road a one-way.

Bonnie Rosen, 3 Delcrest Court, Unit 201, from the Delcrest Court Condominiums, stated that
there should be a pedestrian and bicycle walkway added.

Fred Ahlmeier, 8505 Delmar, stated that the access road should remain open in order to
maintain a healthy business district in that area. He feels there needs to be a pedestrian walkway
added and the road needs to be widened.

Edward Engler, 18 Anfred Walk, works at 8630 Delmar, states that he has not observed any
traffic backups at the entrance. He feels that the citizens need the road for convenience.

Stanley Harris, 640 Vassar, stated that the traffic study definitely needs to be reviewed by the
City Engineer. He feels that most of the people turn east, thereby not creating much of a
problem. He feels that there is no more danger at that intersection than any other. He feels that
the one-way ordinance was passed out of spite.

Mr. Marsh stated that although the Commission was looking for information and not a head
count, he was curious about how many present favored keeping the access road open as a two-
way drive. 10 people were for leaving the access road two-way with the suggested
improvements and 1 person was against it.

Ms. Schuman stated that the "one-way" ordinance passed by City Council does not go into effect
until October 16, 1993 in order to grant time for resolution of the zoning issues.

The Public Hearing portion of the meeting was closed.

Ms. Kreishman asked Mr. Bunte about the amount of truck traffic. He responded that there was
approximately two trucks per hour and after 7 p.m. the number dropped to practically nothing.

Mr. Kahn noted that the traffic study was done on July 28th after the store had only been open
for two weeks.

Ms. Ratner asked if Wednesday was a "typical" day. Mr. Lyons stated that it was. Actually,
that week was a more busy than usual because it was during the grand opening of the store.

Mr. Foxworth stated that the fence half way down the road made it difficult to pass by. Mr.
Lyons responded that the fence will most likely be removed. They were previously used as a
barricade by Bristol Meyer. Mr. Foxworth stated that a pedestrian walkway was definitely
needed. Mr. Lyons stated that Schnucks would be willing to add a pedestrian walkway.

m-8-25.plc
