December 11, 1996 Plan Commission Minutes Page 3
3) The parking lot layout shall be revised to provide not less than two large trees in the center portion
of the lot and planted areas containing 3 trees along the north side of the parking area. 4) A detailed
landscaping plan shall be submitted to the Director of Planning for review by April 30, 1997. The
landscape material shall be installed by November 15, 1997 and shall be maintained in accordance
with the plan. 5) An easement or written agreement shall be recorded with the Recorder of Deeds
that provides access to the cemetery for funerals and for cemetery visitors and provides water for use
in maintaining cemetery plantings.
Chairperson Solodar opened the public hearing and asked for testimony from the public.
Rudy Oppenhiem, 7561 Drexel, stated that he represents the cemetery owners and they have no
opposition to the proposal. He suggested that the school be required to put a fence around the holly
hedges.
Martin Spizman, 8136 Stanford, stated that he is the current owner of the property and thinks this
is an appropriate use for the property and the school has a fine reputation.
Brenda Walker, 7405 Anrose, stated that she lives directly behind the site and thinks it is an excellent
use of the property. She does want to make sure there is a transitional yard with a screened fence
at least 6' feet in height. Mr. Solodar stated that if approved he would try to make sure that is added
to the conditions. Ms. Walker asked if the there are many special events associated with the school.
Ms. Buckley replied that to date they have had no sporting events or dances and did not anticipate
that there would be many, if at all, in the future.
Don Wylan, 7354 Melrose, asked if the future expansion to 136 would be denied would they still
consider this location. Ms. Buckley replied that they are considering it only for the 120 students at
this time.
Herbert Lane, 7365 Melrose, asked if any students would be spending the night at the facility. Ms.
Buckley replied that they would not. Mr. Lane asked if the children would be permitted to leave the
grounds during the school day. Ms. Buckley replied that they would not.
No other members of the public indicated a desire to speak, so the public hearing portion of the
meeting was closed.
Mr. Lieberman and Ms. Buckley discussed the differences between the Metropolitan School, the
Special School District and LOGOS, financial aid issues and the lack of services received from state,
school district and city resources.
Ms. Glassman asked if the staff supervises the departure of children at the end of the school day. Ms.
Buckley replied that they do and all children are required to leave the campus immediately at the end
of the day.
m-12-11.plc
