June 28, 2000 Plan Commission Minutes Page 3 of 7 <br />Elizabeth Proost, 7481 Washington stated that the applicant has been a good neighbor in the past <br />and that she was in favor of the project. She is not in favor of the proposed hours of operation, <br />did not want them to be approved for a liquor license, did not want video games at the <br />establishment, is concerned about trash from the convenience store and did not want speakers to <br />be out by the gas pumps. She wanted to know what type of protection would be afforded the <br />employees. <br />Mubeen Mahmood replied that they are not applying for a liquor license, he will not have video <br />games, he plans to police for trash in the area and will not use speakers for the gas pumps. He <br />stated that they will not have bullet-proof glass between customers and employees but will put it <br />in if it in necessary. <br />Carol Rossel, 7407 Teasdale presented a four page petition with 43 signatures opposed to the <br />proposal. The signors state that they “object to the potential increase in litter, noise, loitering, <br />lights and traffic that this facility will generate and also the potential sale of alcohol” in the <br />residential neighborhood. She also stated that hours of operation are much too early and much <br />too late. <br />Leanne Littlefield, 7437A Ahern Court stated she used to work at the Shell Station and that she <br />feels the store would be convenient for people living in the area. <br />Danny Dugan, 7439 Washington stated he did not feel that enforcement of the conditions on the <br />permit would not be sufficient to control the problems created by the use, was opposed to the <br />illumination that the canopy would create, wanted the hours of operation reduced below what <br />was recommended by the Staff Report, was opposed to the design of proposed canopy shown in <br />photographs by the applicant and wants the Plan Commission to turn down the application. <br />Rob Fucetola, 7479 Teasdale stated that he is opposed to the approval of the convenience store <br />altogether. The proposed hours of operation are too late, fears for the safety of his daughter, is <br />opposed to the lighting of the building, the aesthetics of the building are sub-standard and feels <br />that the use does not serve the needs of the community. <br />Christopher Thau, 7439 Washington stated he is opposed the design of the canopy. <br />Kay Drey, 515 West Point inquired about the number of cars parked on the site. <br />Paula Mubeen, 19 Marsally Dr., St. Louis, MO 63131 stated that there is an existing canopy on <br />the property similar and size to the one proposed. <br />No other members of the public indicated a desire to speak, so the public hearing portion of the <br />meeting was closed. <br />K:\WPOFFICE\WPDATA\m-6-28-2000.plc.wpd <br /> <br />
