Page 2 - Agenda
April 12, 2006

3.Speed limit on Blackberry to be reduced from 30 to 25 MPH

Please find attached a petition received by Mr. Ollendorff on March 6, 2006. The petition
was submitted by the residents in the 7700, 7800 and 7900 blocks of Blackberry Avenue.
They are requesting that the speed limit on Blackberry Avenue be reduced from 30 to 25
miles per hour. They are also requesting that painting of parking lines on the street be
evaluated.

Currently, there is parking available on both sides of Blackberry, from North & South to Gay
Avenue. The width of the street is 31 feet. There are bike route signs on both sides of
the street. The speed limit west of Gay Avenue is 20 miles per hours because of a school
zone.

The engineering division recommends that the speed limit on Blackberry Avenue be
reduced from 30 to 25 miles per hour from North & South to Gay Avenue. The
Engineering Division will review the possibility of painting parking and bike route striping
along Blackberry Avenue.

4.Safety issues in the 7600 block of Gannon Avenue.

Please find attached a traffic request form dated March 4, 2006 submitted by Ms. Gerdes.
Ms. Gerdes is requesting a no parking area for safer traveling on the street. She is also
requesting a no parking distance of 2 feet on each side of two driveway entrances.

The portion of Gannon Avenue, just east of North & South is a very congested area. On
the north east corner there is the Chesed Shel Emeth Society and on the south east corner
there is Momo’s restaurant. Next to Momo’s on the south side, there are other
businesses. Gannon from North & South to the alley just east of North & South is 36 feet
wide. There are three parking meters in the south side, from North & South to the alley.
The street narrows to 25 feet east of the alley up to Bemiston Avenue (see sketch
attached).

The following options could be considered:
1.Residential parking permits to be implemented in the residential area.

2.Prohibit parking on the north or south side of the street from the alley to Bemiston

Avenue.

The proposal will be sent to residents for discussion at the meeting.

2
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\agenda\2006\April's meeting\Agenda 4-12-06.doc
