Traffic Commission Minutes
February 12, 2003

2) Stop Signs for eastbound Ahern Ave. at Raisher Dr.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

?
A Traffic Request Form, dated January 13, 2003, was submitted by Scout
Gibson. She is requesting a Stop Sign for eastbound Ahern Ave. at Raisher Dr.
?
The Engineering Division recommends to deny the request for a new stop sign
on Ahern Ave. at Raisher Dr.

DISCUSSION:

?
There was Mrs. Gibson, and Leroy Gill (President of Mona Terrace
Neighborhood Association) present to speak. Mrs. Gibson stated that the
complimentary stop sign would make driving (down Raisher especially) safer.
Besides, there is an existing stop sign for westbound Ahern at Raisher Dr. with a
supplemental plaque displaying “Cross traffic does not stop”. According to her,
a complimentary stop sign is necessary the at the other side, otherwise the cars
on Raisher have to stop anyway.

?
Mrs. Schafers explained that the existing stop sign at Ahern is due to the “angle
intersection” and difficult sight distance. Besides, for northbound Raisher at
Ahern there is a plaque displaying “Street ends, no outlet”. There were no
reported accidents at this intersection in the past 3 years, according to police
department records. The stop signs should not be used for speed control and
should be installed in a manner that minimizes the number of vehicles having to
stop.

?
Shelley Welsch, Council Liaison, mentioned that according to her experience that
is a dangerous intersection.

The Commission voted to ask the Engneering Division to re evaluate the
intersection of Ahern Ave. at Raisher Dr. and review the possibility to install
the stop Sign for eastbound Ahern Ave. at Raisher Dr.

V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2003\Minutes 02-12-03.doc
