<br />Traffic Commission Minutes <br />February 12, 2003 <br />Page 3 of 5 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Proposed Signs for southbound Wilson Ave. at Shaftesbury Ave. <br />3) <br /> <br />BACKGROUND INFORMATION: <br /> <br />? <br /> The intersection of Wilson-Shaftesbury Avenue is divided by an island. <br />Therefore, Wilson intersects Shaftesbury at two locations (east and west legs). <br />? <br /> A Traffic Request Form, dated January 7, 2003 was submitted by Leslie McCall. <br /> <br />He is requestingone of the following options: <br /> <br /> <br />1. Remove stop signs south-east bound and north-west bound Shaftesburyat <br />Wilson (east leg) and install for southbound Wilson (east leg) at Shaftesbury a <br />plaque displaying “Cross traffic does not stop”. <br />2. Install a stop sign for southbound Wilson (east leg) at Shaftesbury <br /> <br />? <br /> Is the recommendation of the Engineering Division to deny the options <br />presented. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION: <br /> <br />? <br /> Leslie McCall was present and expressed his concerns. He stated that right <br />now a bad accident is waiting to happen. <br />? <br /> There are existing stop signs for both northbound and southbound Wilson (west <br />leg) at Shaftesbury and other existing stop signs for both southeast bound and <br />northwest bound Shaftesbury at Wilson (east leg). For eastbound Shaftesbury <br />at Wilson there is a School Crossing sign and for southbound Wilson 100 feet <br />before the intersection with Shaftesbury (west leg) is a school crossing plaque. <br />? <br /> There are reported accidents on 10-31-2000 and 11-30-2000 respectively. <br />However, none of these accidents are correctible by using the options mentioned <br />above. <br />? <br /> It is not advisable to remove the existing stop signs since there is a school near <br />there, and it is not advisable to install an additional stop sign to increase the <br />numbers of vehicles having to stop unnecessarily. <br /> <br /> <br />The Commission voted to deny the options presented. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2003\Minutes 02-12-03.doc <br /> <br />
