inconvenienced. She is concerned that there is no gap time for pedestrians to cross Olive Blvd.
Mrs. Glickert wonders if there was a suggestion to the County to install a “no left turn” sign on
Westgate at Olive.

Mariela explained that in the request to the City to designate Westgate Avenue as one-way
southbound from Olive to North Drive, the County considered a traffic volume count for a period of
13 hours. The count revealed a low percentage of vehicles entering the intersection using Sutter
Avenue and Westgate Avenue and also a total of 5 pedestrians crossing at the time.

Mr. Patterson decided to give Mrs. Glickert a copy of the letter prepared by the County.

Fr. Brown questioned why the County removed the stop sign at Westgate and requested the
changes instead of removing the stop signs at Olive and making no changes at Westgate. The
County does not have jurisdiction over Westgate.

Mariela explained that motorist stopped on Westgate have inadequate sight distance to turn left
(eastbound) on Olive.

Mrs. Glickert also complained because the issue was not publicized to the entire neighborhood and
that they were not aware of the meeting.

Mariela explained that the agenda was posted as requested by the Sunshine law and that the
businesses directly affected by the restriction were notified. However, none of them attended
December’s meeting when the issue was previously discussed.

The City preferred that no changes be done, however, the changes on Westgate are a result of the
changes on Olive Blvd. that the County has sole jurisdiction of and therefore, the ability to
implement with our without city approval.

3.Parking Restrictions in front of 7359 Lindell Blvd.

Present was Catherine Button business owner of “Ms. M’s” at 7359 Lindell and she requested that
the City designate on-street parking for Customers Only in front of this location during business
hours from Tuesday to Saturday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Mrs. Button states that Washington University employees take the parking on the street for the
entire day, not allowing customers to park along the street. She is aware of the renovation of the
parking lot at the corner of Lindell and Forsyth.

Mariela explained that consideration can be given to one or two hour parking restrictions rather
than customer parking signs.

Ms. Button agreed with the suggestion and she will attend the next meeting in February.

4.Request for no parking signs to be Installed in front of the 7023 Forsyth private

property driveway.

Present was Rev. Andrew Benko and he requested signs prohibiting parking at least 1 foot from the
driveway at 7023 Forsyth Ave.

Rev. Benko states that there is a chronic/habitual abuse of drivers parking too close to the driveway
and it’s difficult to get in and out of the driveway. He stated that one of the Assistant Chaplains
had a wreck due to cars parked in the driveway space.
Minutes – January 9, 2008 Page
2

V:\WP51\ENGINEERING DIVISION\Public Works- Traffic Commission\Traffic Commission\minutes\2008\Minutes 1-09-08.doc
