DRAFT <br />Office of the City Manager <br /> <br /> <br />6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 862-6767, Fax: (314) 863-9146 <br />M E M O R A N D U M <br />TO: Lehman Walker, City Manager <br />FROM: Brandon Drake, Administrative Analyst <br /> DATE: April 11, 2011 <br />SUBJECT: Summer Youth Program-Basic Criteria <br />WHAT IS THE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM <br />: <br />The Youth Employment Program is a City funded (no grant funding) program to provide <br />youth ages 16-19 with meaningful work experience. The program will allow participants <br />to gain job skills, training, and personal financial management, which will prepare the <br />participants for future employment. For Summer 2011, the program will hire 10 youth. <br />OBJECTIVES <br />To give youth an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience. <br />To provide youth with professional development <br />To provide an opportunity to learn and develop valuable and critical job skills to obtain <br />and retain meaningful employment. <br />To provide an understanding of public service operations. <br />Provide an understanding of proper work habits. <br />Provide training in personal financial management. <br />DURATION OF THE PROGRAM <br />: <br />The program shall operate generally during the summer months, June-August, when <br />school will not interfere with work. The program shall run 10 weeks at the maximum, <br />dependent upon the academic schedule of local schools. <br />THE PROGRAM WILL OPERATE <br />: <br />Monday-Friday, 8 Hours per day-40 Hours per week <br />1 Hour lunch period <br />The start and end time of a shift may vary depending on the department that the <br />participant is assigned. <br />PARTICIPATING DEPARTMENTS: <br />Administrative Services/City Manager- Two (2) Participants <br /> <br />
