Mr. Kraft asked under the City Manager’s report for information. He said there <br />previously was a bond issue that did not pass for one million dollars, which was going to <br />be used to fix up the residual fire and police station to make it more habitable for the <br />police. Mr. Kraft said if it was estimated it would take a million dollars to fix the building <br />up, if the City Manager could provide a comparison of the costs to fix up versus the cost <br />to build a new police station. Mr. Kraft asked Mr. Walker if he could get back to the <br />Council with the comparison. <br /> <br />L. COUNCIL REPORTS AND DISCUSSION <br />1. <br />The requirement for certain Boards and Commissions for specific expertise <br />according to the Charter or Ordinances. <br />Mayor Pro-Tem Sharpe read a note from Mayor Welsch on need to seek members of <br />some Boards and Commission who have particular professional qualifications. UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> <br />BILLS <br />1. <br />BILL 9115 – An ordinance and fixing the compensation to be paid to City Officials <br />and employees as enumerated herein from and after its passage, and repealing <br /> <br />Ordinance No. 6845. <br /> <br />Mr. Kraft moved to approve Bill 9115 and was seconded by Mr. Glickert. <br /> <br />Roll Call Vote: <br />AYES: Mr. Kraft, Mr. Glickert, Mr. Sharpe <br />NAYS: Ms. Ricci <br />Bill 9115 failed due to lack of affirmative votes according to University City’s Charter, <br />Section 9. <br /> <br />2. <br />BIILL 9118 – An ordinance amending Chapter 10.44 of the University City Municipal <br />Code, relating to parking restrictions for specific streets, by repealing Section <br />10.44.010 thereof, relating to parking prohibited on certain streets at all times, and <br />enacting in lieu thereof a new section to be known as “Section 10.44.010 parking <br />prohibited on certain streets at all times,” thereby amending said section so as to <br />restrict parking at all times on the west side of Melville Avenue thereof from Delmar <br />Boulevard to Kingsbury Avenue, and on the north side of Loop South thereof from <br />Melville Avenue to ninety (90) feet west; containing a saving clause and providing a <br />penalty. <br /> <br /> <br />CITIZEN COMMENTS <br />Elsie Glickert, 6712 Etzel <br />Ms. Glickert talked about the no parking on Mehlville on the west side. She felt this <br />bill was unfair to the restaurants and businesses on the west side of Mehlville by <br />taking parking away from them. Ms. Glickert asked that the traffic commission look <br />at it and make it a one-way street for one block just as Westgate is and exodus could <br />be on Loop South, thus allowing parking on both sides of the street. Ms. Glickert <br />said the Parks Commission voted against it and she would like for the Traffic <br />Commission to review it again. <br /> <br /> <br />
