Session 1092, :Minutes Page 17
January 6, 1975
HUD LOTS:
Councilman Glickert expresses: some concern about the Hud lots which the City
has acquired and said she has rade requests heretofore that utility poles
be placed at the alley line to prohibit parking. She said she would like
to see the City proceed with this.
She said she also thinks something can be done about the erosion situation
on the lots, particularly on Etzel and Bartmer, utilizing the services of
PEP workers.
ENTRY SIGNS:
The question of entry signs to tiie City was raised by Councilman Glickert
and she urged that steps be taken immediately to improve the appearance of
the entrance signs. City Manager henry suggested that a designer be hired
to submit a new logo for the Council's consideration.
PROBLE11 OF CRO`iS:
Councilman "Lieberman pointed out that a serious problem exists in the City
because of the large number of crows. City Hanager Henry explained that it
is proposed within tate next few weeks to shoot off a gas cannon, which will
fire every few minutes.( probably located on the edge of Ruta Park) startiag
an.i0 1T L: ?OIC :lar; . an COit:i 11n for an hour aft?r. l it Llorrendous noise
should dispel the birds over a period of several days. Publicity will be
given to this so that residents will be aware of what is uappening.
TREE LAWNS - ELMORE:
Councilman Lieberman said the muddy tree lawns on Elmore, now covered with
straw, are causing problems for the neighbors in that area who sink into the
mud when they get out of their cars to enter their homes. This is up and
down three blocks of Elmore, and he said he has heard numerous complaints
about this.
11r. A. B. Dieckgraefe, Director of Public Works, was invited to comment and
he said the only answer would be sodding, which is expensive. He said the
areas have been seeded and covered with straw, but it is the timing of the
project which leaves it in a wet condition. He said one possibility is for
the City to purchase additional straw and cover the tree lawns more heavily,
which might alleviate the problem somewhat.
SIDWALPS - ELIME
Councilman Grimm said tie has been advised that on Elmore there are some
areas where the concrete sidewalks have been broken (during construction
of the street) and have not been replaced.
lir. A. B. Dieckgraefe, Director of Public Works, said the administrative
forces have checked out accusations whisa have been received and in most
instances have photographs of the existing sidewalks before construction.
In all of those that he has had specific complaints on, -tie said, they have
been checked and insofar as the administrative forces have been able to
determine, it was a broken sidewalk before. He added that more money than
was anticipated has been spent in sidewalk replacement, but not in terms
of repairing a broken sidewalk - merely in providing transition where the
City needed grade -wise to put transitional sidewalks in.
RIGHT ILAAD TUMIS ON RED:
The matter of right hand turns on led was raised by Hayor Kaufman. During
discussion, it was agreed that the one at Harvard and Delmar would be very
dangerous. Councilman 1Ieissenburger moved that a letter be transmitted to
