From input which he has been
receiving from many citizens, Councilman Lieberman said lie understands the
supervisory personnel (in the playgrounds in his area and Heman Park) are
not doing a good job, and many of his constituents feel very concerned about
sending their children to an atmosphere that is improperly supervised. He
said he would like a report on how supervisors are hired, what kind of pro-
grams they are tra-.ned in, their attendance records, etc.
11r. Bob Heslep, Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, was
invited to comment. He answered questions. I'_e said that he, Iir. hohlenberger
(Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry), along with the supervisors, go
around and check on the counselors to see that they are doing their job.
Councilman Werner said he believes this issue should be discussed at another
meeting since it is quite late in the evening now. He said he believes the
City is spending a considerable amount of money on the summer playground pro-
gram, and he is not sure that it is getting its noneys worth. He suggested
that if contracts are to be sent out, the prospective employees should be
advised that their employment is contingent upon their attendance.
Councilman Werner moved approval of the dates (June 16th to July 25th for
the Playgrounds, and July 26th through August 23rd for Camp Hawthorn). Pinnell on behalf
of the Council. 1lotion was seconded by Councilman Werner and unanimously
carried.
There was discussion concerning more adult supervision at the Pink. Councilman
Werner said he thinks it is important that the attendants be neatly and
properly attired. Ile coriunended 11r. Kohlenberger and 11r. Heslep for a good
job in getting the kink opened.
DISPOSITION OF PROPERTIES ACQUIRED FROM HUD:
City Hanager Henry, in reviewing this matter, said that two major alterna-
tives have been presented to the Council as to how these properties may be
rehabilitated and disposed of within the requirements of the law.
