Session 1235, Minutes Page 6
January 7, 1980
Councilman Lieberman asked Mr. Goldman what he thought about the plans for the deli,
as submitted. Mr. Goldman said the plans were rather sketchy, but that it definite-
ly is a carryout operation. One concern would be the amount of litter which might
be generated with an operation of this type. Mr. Goldman said the staff was con-
cerned that the cooking facilities be properly safeguarded with required hood and
fire suppression system.
In response to a question from Councilman Metcalfe, Mr. Davis said he has a three-
year lease. Mrs. Metcalfe said she also was concerned about the possible litter
problem. Mr. Goldman said the City's anti -littering laws would take care of the
deli's trash disposal, but it cannot compel customers to deposit their trash in re-
ceptacles, although 11r. Davis said he would certainly encourage them to do so.
Councilman Kelley said he felt the City's ordinances will take care of the kinds of
things Council has been discussing,, but what they should be doing; is considering if
this type of operation would be beneficial to the area in which it is to be located.
He felt it was, and seconded '1r. Sabol's motion. The motion passed unanimously.
CONSIDERATION OF BIDS FOR POLICE AUTOMOBILES
The City Manager said bids were solicited from 29 area dealers for the furnishing of
twelve 1980 model, 8 -cylinder, 4 -door sedans for use as regular duty vehicles by the
Police Department. The City is selling; outright twelve 1979 Ford LTD II vehicles
currently being used for this purpose. The results were as follows:
Total cost each unit
Total cost for 12 units
Total cost each unit
Total cost for 12 units
King Dodge
Dodge St. Regis
$ 7,240.36
$86,884.32
Kribs Ford
Ltd "S"
$ 7,030.85
$84,370.20
Ackerman Buick
Buick LeSabre
$ 7,469.00
$89,628.00
Cavalier
Ltd "S"
$ 7,159.08
$85,908.96
Don Essen
Chevrolet Impala
$ 7,779.67
$93,356.04
The administrative forces recommend acceptance of the Kribs Ford bid in the amount
of $84,370.20.
Bids in the amount of $13,500.00 from Ackerman Buick, $15,600.00 from M & W Enter-
prises, Inc., and $18,000.00 from D & L Brokers were received for the 1979 vehicles.
Acceptance of the D & L Brokers bid of $18,000 reduces the cost of the new vehicles
to $66,637.02.
Councilman Adams said he had asked that this item be removed from the Consent Calen-
dar because he felt the City should be buying, smaller, six -cylinder cars because of
the energy crisis and because the auto industry is concentrating on making smaller
cars. He also said he was opposed to Ford autos, since the ones the Police Depart-
ment had last year had more than 100 down days (out of operation) mostly because of
brake problems.
