Session 1234, Minutes
December 17, 1979
MISCELLANEOUS
Page 11
Councilman Sabol inquired about the 1980 City calendar which is to be sent to resi-
dents of University City. 11r. Ellman said it would be sent out by the first of the
year, barring unforeseen difficulties.
Councilman Sabol thanked the City staff and the other Council members for the help
they have given him in the past year, and wished them all a happy holiday season.
CLOSING DATE FOR CABLE TELEVISION PROPOSALS
Councilman Sabol reminded Council that they were to set a cutoff date for cable tele-
vision proposals. Councilman Adams moved that the closing date be set for January 7,
1980. Councilman Kelley seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
RECONSIDERATION OF BILL NO. 7392
Councilman Kelley asked if someone who voted in the majority would move to reconsid-
er Bill No. 7392, in view of the fact that Mr. Schlafman did not get a chance to
voice his concerns when the bill was being considered. Councilman Metcalfe said,
with all due respect to Mr. Schlafman, that she did not feel that was necessary,
since it is the responsibility of the person who wishes to speak to get his request
in in a timely manner. She felt the Mayor and Council exhibit great flexibility
when it comes to allowing citizens to speak on issues before the Council.
- RETIREMENT OF COUNCILMAN GLICKERT
Councilman Glickert announced that she does not plan to run for reelection to the
Council in the April 1, 1980 election. firs. Glickert has been involved in three
very active campaigns and has been on the Council nearly 11 years. She said she
would miss being on the Council very much, but will be available to them in whatever
way she might best serve the community. Mayor Mooney said she would be greatly
missed, and that he has always thought of her as the conscience of the community.
Councilman Glickert suggested that there be a news release informing the public
there are three Council seats to be voted on in the April 1, 1980 election, and that
anyone interested in filing may do so between January 2, 1980 and February 15, 1980.
COMMENTS ON BILL NO. 7392
Councilman Metcalfe said she wanted to clarify her position on this bill. She voted
for the bill so that in case the court ruled that the communities can levy the tax,
if it is decided that the revenue generated will go into the 'spool," the individual
community, at that point, can decide not to levy the tax.
COMMENTS ON BUDGET
Councilman Sabol asked if it was not possible for Council to get the budget a little
earlier than it has in the past. Councilman Adams said, while the Council does not
get the actual budget until late May, the administration does issue preliminary in-
formation and directives delineating budget projections and other useful information.
ADJOTTRAART NT
Councilman Metcalfe moved that the meeting be adjourned. Councilman Sabol seconded
the motion, which carried unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 10:02 P.M.
