Session 1480, Minutes
November 7, 1988
Page 8
the easiest thing to do was to build a new bridge, but that cost $200,000 or
more, and was not thought to be necessary with the Chamberlain bridge. The
engineering firm ought to be able to discern what needs to be done, and that
was why he was making this recxrmnendation. However, he pointed out that with
bridge work, it cannot always be determined until after work is started how
extensive repairs will need to be.
Mrs. Schuman suggested that if a similar situation developed with the Chamber-
lain Alley bridge as happened with the Kempland bridge, it would be desirable
to inform the closest neighborhoods of the reasons for the delay in reopening
the bridge.
Mr. 011endorff asked Director of Public Works Allen Dieckgraefe to cmment.
Mr. Dieckgraefe said the Kempland bridge would certainly be open in about two
weeks, although there would still be some peripheral work, such as installa-
tion of curbs, driveways, etc. He said the Chamberlain bridge problem was to-
tally different frczn that of the Kempland bridge, because, in addition to the
discovery that there was more damage to the Kempland bridge than originally
estimated, work was delayed considerably because of having to get several dif-
ferent approvals from the state, which paid 80% of the costs.
Mr. Schooner called the question, and all voted Aye.
The Personnel report for the week ending Navember 5, 1988, was received and
ordered filed.
None.
BILL NO. 7889 - AMENDING CHAPTER 21 MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO -MOTOR VEHICI
AND TRAFFIC BY REPEA M4G SECTION 21-132, AND ENACTING IN LIEU THE RDOF A NEW
SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS "SECTION 21-132. PARKI14G PROHIBITED ON CERTAIN STREETS
AT ALL TMolES," BY MENDING SAID SECTION SO AS TO ALLOW FOR A PARKIlIG PROHIBI-
TION ON THE EAST SIDE OF M WIGHT P'IACE FROM BARBY LANE TO A POINT 225 FET
NORTH OF BARBY LANE.
A bill was introduced by Councilmember Schocaner, entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CMPIRR 21 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF UNIVER-
SITY CITY RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC, BY REPF'ATTNG SECTION 21-132
THMBOF, AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCE NO. 5654 ENACTED MAY 2, 1988 RELATING TO PRO-
HIBITED PARKING ON CERTAIN STREWS AT ALL, TIMES, AND ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF
A NEW SECTION TO BE 1040M AS ' SECTION 21-132. PARKING PROHIBITED ON CERTAIN
Sn E8Z5 AT ALL TIMES,' BY MENDING SAID SECTION SO AS TO ALLOW FOR A PARKING
PROHIBITION ON THE EAST SIDE OF MCKNIGHT PLACE FROM BARBY LANE TO A POINT 225
FEET NORTH OF BARBY LANE; CONTAINING A SAVING CLAUSE AND PROVIDING A PENALTY."
The bill was assigned No. 7889 and given its first reading.
