Norma Bonham Schechter, 734 Brittany
Ms. Schechter was a former U City Forester. She was in favor of the new bill. Ms.
Schechter said that many communities such as St. Peters and Wildwood have
implemented a tree ordinance to protect their trees. She said that it is an honor to be
classified as Tree City U.S.A.

John Solodar, 8135 Cornell Ct.
Mr. Solodar was in favor of the bill. Under this proposed ordinance, the City cannot make
owners cut down trees on private property; however owners could be subject to Civil laws
if their tree was deemed hazardous and injured property or home of their neighbor. He
was happy to see this bill to maintain University City’s tree density. Mr. Solodar said a bill
as this has not discouraged development in other areas, no different than requiring
electricians, plumbers, etc to purchase licenses.

Daniel Talone, 8336 Cornell
Mr. Talone was inquiring as to whether the invasive honeysuckle found in Ruth Park and
Kaufman Park would be removed and if this ordinance would control vegetations as this.
Mr. Talone really appreciates the trees in University City and is proud to be a resident in a
City classified as Tree City U.S.A.

Paul Schoomer, 7 Princeton
Mr. Schoomer was not in favor of the bill. He felt it was an over assertion of government
power. Mr. Schoomer felt the existing Park and Historic Preservation Commissions could
oversee the functioning of this new ordinance if passed; no new commission is needed.
He felt the Plan Commission could barter with new developers to prevent trees being
removed. Mr. Schoomer felt this bill was aimed at mass developers and not what is really
present in the City now. He said the City staff, the Plan Commission, the City Council, the
Historic Preservation Commission, the Traffic Commission and the Infill Review Board
would be able to enforce and prevent the loss or improper trimming of trees. Mr.
Schoomer recommended the Council table, if not vote to defeat this bill.

Suzanne Schoomer, 7 Princeton
Ms. Schoomer said this bill would be anti-development. She questioned how this bill was
planning on controlling plants. Ms. Schoomer said that the U City did not need another
committee. She also said the bill did not offer an appeal option.

The Public Hearing was closed at 7:45 p.m.

PUBLIC HEARING – Delcrest rezoning
The Public Hearing was opened at 7:46 p.m. There was not anyone present who wished
to speak.
