Mayor Welsch stepped out.
Abbie Carter stated the importance of communicating with people to find out what they know,
rather than what we want to tell them. It is also important that youth are involved. All wards
should be represented.
Questions/Comments and discussion:
-Seniors and youth together is a large task.
-There has not been any youth present at our meetings.
-The need for two groups was suggested. The needs of the youth are different than needs
of seniors.
-Should we divide into subcommittees?
-We need to complete the document. Our first priority should be working on the report
card and setting up a meeting with the youth.
-When Proposition K was presented to build Centennial Commons, there was a survey of
high school students. This survey might be at City Hall.
Brief discussion about school district accreditation, skill level of students and programs offered
for students, specifically programs that serve or do not serve University City High School.
Kelly Lachajczyk mentioned programs by Discovering Options. Others asked for a brochure.
The Missouri Department of Mental Health has funded it. Discovering Options works to reduce
drug use.
-Many agencies try to get funds from the School District. Grants must be applied for to
get new programs. Funding is depleted for additional programs.
-We need to work on the survey. When can we get together to work on survey?
-It was suggested to get rid of poor, fair, etc. and to include “I don’t know” “Yes” and
“No.”
-Task Force members discussed options for numbering, number of choices, and wording
in the survey.
Jen Jensen made a motion to change the wording to 3 = Yes. 2 = No. 1 = I don’t know.
The motion was seconded by Bernetta Campbell.
tm;
E
