Questions/Comments and discussion:
-Maybe a survey would help. A survey for University City High School kids.
-Kids should be involved with the survey.
-Maybe the high school kids know where all the other kids are coming from.
-When the dance was put together, it was a controlled environment. The facility could
have accommodated more kids than those that attended.
-Some parents ban their kids from The Loop, so they go to someone’s house instead. This
is caused by the groups of kids that go to The Loop and don’t behave.
Question to Mr. Liberto: How is it in The Loop during the day?
Mr. Liberto – During the day it is great. There are usually no large groups of people. Sunday
has lighter traffic. Some of the businesses are closed.
-How many businesses are open after 9 pm?
Mr. Edwards – Many of the restaurants and the music venues. Vintage Vinyl is. Most of the
disorderly kids come out after 9.
-What is the age of people who’ve been arrested?
Mr. Edwards – Typically 18 or 19.
Mr. Liberto stated that some of the problems have involved six kids beating up one kid and other
similar situations. When this occurs, business owners don’t care who specifically is causing a
problem, they kick everyone out.
Ms. Crudden stated that many of the stores are closed when problems occur.
-Are police enforcing the curfew?
Mr. Edwards – Yes.
Mr. Liberto added that sometimes the enforcement leads to the additional problem of having
police officers everywhere.
Questions/Comments and discussion:
-Many of the kids are not coming to The Loop to be patrons, they are just hanging out.
The Loop is basically an outdoor mall for them.
tm; E
