Update on Seniors and Teens Surveys
Shirley stated that response from Parkview was minimal. Most of the residents stay in
their home. Many of them only speak Russian.
Michelle stated she has worked with Parkview and programs they offer. There is a
business at Midland and Balson that provides services to Parkview. They provide bus
service to Parkview. They also speak both Russian and English. It is owned by Irina
and Susan Bursik at 314-726-5600.
Michelle mentioned that surveys were perhaps going to be delivered through meals on
wheels. She also asked how the group planned to meet the needs of those homebound
with no transportation and no internet and how to find out what those people need.
Shirley asked for any ideas about how to reach those residents.
Genice stated that those records might be available through voter registration. She also
added that synagogues and churches have been contacted.
Jen stated that there is a need to reach out to those in that population group. While we
will hopefully know what assets are available by the end of the process, we also
recognize that there is a need for this group to be reached.
Victor added that it may be impossible to identify that group and they may be missed.
The census will not necessarily identify those residents. There will be some residents
we miss for various reasons. We don’t know how many there are.
Jen stated that we will not be able to reach these people but in our report we can state
that there is a group we cannot reach and that something needs to be done about that
problem. However, that is not what the Task Force is about. We could add to our
report that there is a group that cannot be reached.
Abbie asked if there are particular areas in which these people are located.
Michelle added that it is probably spread throughout the city. If seniors do not have
someone to help them, they may not be motivated to complete the survey.
Clay asked if there are there health care agencies out there who know who some of
these people are. Maybe we could talk to some home health care providers.
Michelle stated some could probably answer how many people use their services. Even
though people need home health care, it is not covered by medicare. She also added
that University City sends her information, so maybe the City could send mail to every
address asking about those seniors who cannot be reached.
Clay stated that the limitation for the City may be cost.
tm;E
