SWEARING IN <br />1. <br />Dr. Dianne Benjamin was sworn in to the Green Practices Commission. <br /> <br />I. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION (Total of 15 minutes allowed) <br />Elsie Glickert, 6712 Etzel <br />Ms. Glickert directed attention to Olive Street Rd and Kingsland Ave. corner. She said <br />this location was created under University City’s Urban Renewal Plan when Kingsland <br />Ave. was modified. Under the second phase of this plan in 2003, it was to have been <br />landscaped. Ms. Glickert said the first Washington University sculpture placed at this <br />location was an “abandoned building” and presently the sculpture placed there is called <br />“NonPark,” both sculptures presented a negative tone. She said the Arts and Letters <br />Commission is proposing to keep the “NonPark” sculpture permanently and asked the <br />Council not to permit this to happen. Ms. Glickert asked that public be able to comment <br />when Council reviews the liquor license procedures. She did not want to see liquor <br />stores opened with only a bag of potato chips attached to it. <br /> <br />Tom Sullivan, 751 Syracuse <br />Mr. Sullivan spoke of the street light outages about which he informed the City of more <br />than a year ago. He said today the situation is even worse as some of the decorative <br />street lights around City Hall are out; lights are out behind Cicero’s; lights are out at <br />Leland and Clemens; lights are out at Delmar east of Purdue; Lewis Park has three of <br />the four lights out; a light is out at Midland and Dartmouth; Kingsland and Olive has <br />three of the four lights out around the sculpture and the street light across Olive is also <br />out; three street lights on Olive across from Heman Park are out; around Hanley and <br />Olive there are five lights out; and a light is out at North and South at Olive. Mr. Sullivan <br />noted that Fire Chief Don Miner has refused to provide him with information on how <br />many firemen live in University City. He said that it is stated that Chief Miner lives in the <br />City but he is registered to vote in Franklin County. <br /> <br />Richard Dockett, 6844 Crest Ave. <br />Mr. Dockett spoke of the Public Budget meeting at Mt. Gideon and his concern over the <br />smaller accommodation being made for the seniors at Centennial Commons than that <br />which was available to them at the Community Center. <br /> <br />J. The second <br />introduction was for Rich Wilson who is the new Director of Public Works and Parks. <br /> <br />1. <br />Street resurfacing – Microsurfacing to Byrne & Jones Construction for $112,258. <br /> <br />Ms. Ricci moved to approve the application was seconded by Mr. Glickert and the <br />motion carried unanimously. <br /> 2 <br /> <br /> <br />
