Mrs. Schuman moved acceptance of the <br />certification of the April 2, 1996, election results. Mr. Schoomer seconded the motion, which carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams called altention to a resolution prepared by the City Clerk which showed the results of the <br />election. Copies of the resolution were distributed to councilmembers. Mrs. Schuman moved adoption <br />and Mr. Wagner secoreded. All voted Aye. The resolution will become part of the permanent record. <br /> <br />Mrs. Schuman said after eight years on the Council and more than seven years on the Plan Commission, <br />she learned that local democracy is not a spectator sport. She said this community is driven by an energy <br />that demands that thos~ serving it do so with conviction and integrity. She said it had been a privilege to <br />serve with this Council and to observe how councilmembers serve their constituents and their community. <br />She added that public service demands a lot from one's family, and she introduced hers--husband Ken and <br />family members Kevin, Steven, Thomas, Janet and Walt. Mrs. Schuman thanked all who supported her. <br />There was an extended round of applause. <br /> <br />Mr. Schoomer said it had been a delight and honor to serve with Mrs. Schuman, and he would continue <br />to consult her for her wisdom, experience, ability, and expertise in many areas. <br /> <br />Mrs. Thompson said ~he Council would miss Mrs. Schuman, as she tried very hard to keep everyone on <br />the straight and narrow. She hopes her new endeavors will be as interesting as serving on the Council. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner said Mrs. Schuman has been one of the most energetic, knowledgeable, and caring of council- <br />members he has ever had the honor to work with. In addition to serving on the Council and taking care <br />of her family and home, she does a great deal of volunteer work with the School District, Sports <br />Association, D.A.R.E. program, neighborhood block units, and various fundraisers connected with <br />University City. He wished Mrs. Schuman good luck and good fortune in her future endeavors. He said <br />he would miss her boautiful smile and her attitude that everything will work out, no matter how bleak <br />things seem. He would also miss her maddening habit of being on the sensible side of every issue. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams said he first met Mrs. Schuman many years ago while out campaigning, and after becoming <br />better acquainted, nominated her for the Plan Commission; the rest was history. He said it was a pleasure <br />working with Mrs. Schuman and that she was one of the finest, most dedicated and highly principled <br />individuals he has evor known. She loves University City and this is where her heart is. He said she is <br />unique and he will miss her terribly, as she has been a wonderful friend. In addition, she did a superb job <br />as his campaign nmrm~r. He said he would like to call on her occasionally for help in the future, and that <br />he could not thank her enough for her service to the City. <br /> <br /> <br />
