Mr. Wagner seconded the motion, which carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />In a brief ceremony, th$ City Clerk administered the oath of office to Mayor Joseph L. Adams. Applause <br />followed. Mayor Adams then administered the oath of office to newly elected Councilmembers Lawrence <br />Lieberman, Wayne Munkel, and Betty Thompson. There was another round of applause. <br /> <br />The Reverend Stephen L. McKee, pastor of the Church of the Holy Communion, gave a moving invoca- <br />tion, and the "Star Spangled Banner" was beautifully sung by Mrs. Lindsay McKee. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams called the meeting to order. In addition to the Mayor, the roll call vote showed the follow- <br />ing councilmembers to be present: <br /> <br />Mr. Wayne I. Munkel <br />Mr. Robert G. Wagner <br />Mr. Lawrence Lieberman <br />Mr. Paul E. Schoomer <br />Mrs. Betty L. Thompson <br /> <br />Mayor Adams said there is a longstanding tradition in University City of honoring retiring <br />councilmembers; he presented a lifetime pass for all University City park facilities to Mrs. Schuman and <br />her family. There was another round of applause. <br /> <br />OATH OF OFFICE <br /> <br />Mr. Byron R. Price, newly appointed to the City Plan Commission, was given the oath of office by the City <br />Clerk. Mayor Adams thanked Mr. Price for his willingness to serve on this important commission. <br /> <br />UNVE~.ING PORTR31T OF FORMER MAYOR MAJERUS <br /> <br />Mayor Adams said there was another tradition in University City to honor former mayors--in addition to <br />the park pass, a park is aamed for them, and their portrait is hung in the Council Chamber. He said it was <br />his distinct honor to unveil the portrait of his friend, former mayor Janet Majerus. <br /> <br />Mrs. Majerus said University City was the best city in the world, barring none, and it was the biggest honor <br />of her life to serve this City, which she would miss very, very much. There was a standing ovation. <br /> <br />Mayor Adams said there were many special guests in the audience that he felt councilmembers would like <br />to introduce. He recognized his wife Christine, Rev. and Mrs. Stephen McKee, cousin Richard and wife <br />Jewel, and his mentor and former councilmember Tic Weissenberger. He also noted the presence of <br />former Mayor Nathan Kaufman and his wife Lily, former Councilmembers Cynthia Metcalfe, Elsie <br />Glickert, and Allen Sabol, University City School Superintendent Lynn Beckwith, and School Board <br /> <br /> <br />
