Session 1634, Minutes <br />Jar~sry 23, 1995 <br /> <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />Ms. Christina Kircher, spokesperson, introduced team members Angie Little and <br />Kathy Maxwell, noting that Melissa Boone and Joya Thompson could not be pre- <br />sent. Sb~ also introduced Margie Diekemper, one of their instructors and a <br />University City resident. Ms. Kircher said the students bad an excellent ex- <br />perience getting to know the community and working with City officials and <br />c~m,au%ity members. They found the c~m,~nity diverse and c~hesive, with resi- <br />dents c~,,~itted to its life and spirit. She said the i~act project the stu- <br />dents are developing is an education program on cardiopu~ resuscitation <br />to benefit residents, and they would welcome input. Ms. Kircher sun~marized <br />sc~e of the main findings, and Mayor Majerus enoouraged all to read the as- <br />sessment as it has val,,ahle information about the community. <br /> <br />The Personnel report for the week ending Janury 7, 1995, was reoeived and or- <br />dered filed. <br /> <br />CITIZ~ CC~mZ~S <br /> <br />Mr. Robert Atchison, said he was told a supermarket on Olive Boulevard wanted <br />to erect a sign but he did not want Council to do anything to support a non- <br />union bus/hess. As Olive is a state road, he asked if the state restricted <br />signs. Mr. Ollendorff said the University City zoning laws are stricter than <br />state laws and they take also preoedenoe. Mr. Cotton wished to know why the <br />store has been picketed since opening. Mr. Atchison said the informational <br />picketing tells tb~ public the store is non-union and pays sub~tandaxd wages. <br /> <br />Ms. Essie Brown, 934 Briarwood Iane, said sb~ felt services in University <br />city have deteriorated, particularly leaf pickup, and that it was especially <br />bad this year with many leaves left on her block. Mayor Majerus suggested <br />MS. Brown speak with Mr. Ollendorff after the meeting and give him all parti- <br />culars.
