<br /> <br />Mr. Price moved for support of the resolution proposed for the support of <br />University City Scholl District’s Proposition U for the purposes of implementing <br />the recommendations of the facilities steering committee, and was seconded by <br />Mr. Sharpe. <br /> <br />Mr. Price requested the City Clerk to read the Resolution which Ms. Pumm read. <br /> <br />Roll call vote was: <br />Ayes: Mr. Sharpe, Mr. Price, Ms. Carr, Mr. Crow <br />Nays: Mr. Glickert <br />Abstains: Mayor Welsch <br /> <br />Mr. Price’s and Mr. Sharpe’s resolution passed by a majority vote. <br /> <br /> <br /> Resolution Proposed by Mr. Price and Mr. Sharpe for support of Proposition for <br />Gun control to be sent to county, state and federal delegation. <br />Mr. Price stated that he would like the City to send a statement of support that <br />supported sensible measures of gun control because there have been numerous <br />incidents where people have lost their lives in University City related to gun play. <br />He requested that Council send a statement to the county, state and federal <br />delegations. <br /> <br />Mayor Welsch asked if Mr. Price was suggesting that a resolution be in support of <br />President Barack Obama’s specific recommendations. <br /> <br />Mr. Price said he is not saying that but if it comes out of the City meeting, he <br />would support that also. He stated that it should be that University City Council <br />supported reasonable measures on gun control and to urge our state and federal <br />officials to move forward appropriately. <br /> <br />Mr. Crow asked Council to instruct the City Manager to work with the Police Chief <br />Charles Adams to create a resolution that would be appropriately based on his <br />experience as far as the items in President Obama’s initiative. He suggested the <br />enforcement of the laws that are already on the books that the Police Chief may <br />think we can do a better job in enforcing. He said they have a resource in Police <br />Chief Adams and it would give the Council an opportunity to hear from him as to <br />what would be an appropriate course of action for the City. <br /> <br />Mr. Sharpe stated that they were looking for a discussion among the Council as <br />to what they think the most appropriate language they could send to the cities, <br />state and federal delegations. He said that it was not going to fix the problem and <br />he knew you cannot fix a person who was intent on doing harm to someone else, <br />but there are some things that can be considered. <br /> <br />Mayor Welsch said she would be in support of the effort to ask Mr. Walker to <br />work with Chief Adams. Mayor Welsch said she supported stronger measures for <br />gun control and hoped Council would discuss background checks, assault <br />weapons, making sure guns can be traced, other ways to strengthen the City’s <br />7 <br /> <br /> <br />
