Session 1766
October 4, 1999

Mr. Lieberman said that there have been more citizens at the Park Commission meetings
than have been at Council meetings for the last three months. There were some comments
and concerns about the Lewis Park Playground equipment - the main fountain was out of
order. Dogs running loose and the leash law not being enforced in Lewis Park is a concern.
They would like signs and police enforcement. Police dispatchers need some updated City
Maps, because allegedly, they reported to citizens that they have no idea where Majerus
Park or Kaufman Park is. A citizen requested a reduction in the citizen i.d. card fees for the
swimming pool in an effort to bring more folks in to the pool. They are still talking about a
proposed skate park, but information was not available yet for further discussion. There
were some concerns about Majerus Park becoming a hangout for kids after the 10:30 p.m.
curfew. Police are looking into this. A request for more lighting will probably surface
because of this situation. There was an objection to beer sales at Concerts in the Park.
They were diverted to the Arts and Letters Commission. There were objections again to the
music at Heman Pool. Long discussion with no conclusions reached. There is a great deal
of concern that Metcalfe Park is continuing to sink. They want to know how far it is going
to go. There were some requests that our technical consultants should be reporting back to
us, which they did and there was nothing conclusive in the report.

Mr. Schoomer reported that the Historic Preservation Commission did not meet and he was
unable to attend the last Arts and Letters Commission meeting.

Mr. Sharpe stated that at the Traffic Commission meeting, Ms. Corene Brown resigned. A
number of individuals have come forward to make requests of the Traffic Commission.
These are not totally completed because each situation must be studied over a period of
time. There is two studies going on at this time. One individual wished to close the street
on Lindell because of Wash U parking. They have not come up with a real resolution to
this very bad situation as of yet. A group came up wishing to remove the barriers at
Wellington/Purdue and Wellington/Waldron. The Traffic Commission said that they did
want to move the barriers originally, but something needs to be done with them because
they are an eyesore. A group also wanted to close the street on Quendo because it is right
on the border of Pagedale and seemingly, there is some drug traffic and other questionable
things going on in that area. The Traffic Commission will bring the Council a
recommendation by the next meeting.

Mayor Adams said that the IDA, TIF and LCRA have not met during the summer so no
report is forthcoming.

CITY MANAGER'S REPORTS:

AGENDA #1 - CONSENT CALENDAR (3 ITEMS):

3
