<br /> <br />Sue Rehkopf, with the University City Historical Society, stated that the decorative lights <br />proposed to be removed had spotlights on them that light the lion gates. She also <br />stated that at the corner of Kingsland and Delmar there was a tunnel under the road and <br />it could possibly be located with old sets of plans. <br /> <br />The Commission discussed the possible location of the tunnel. <br /> <br />The Commission members discussed potential alternatives for spot lighting of the Lion <br />Gates. <br /> <br />Ms. Schmidt continued with her review of the items discussed. She stated that the <br />general layout of the proposal was accepted. She stated that the lighting was accepted <br />but the lighting on the Lion Gates must be replaced in some fashion due to the removal <br />of the decorative lighting that would be turned over to the Department of Public Works. <br />She stated that the landscaping was accepted and that the Commission would like <br />additional information on the plans for the roundabout and if additional funds would be <br />available for the proposed lawn areas to be enhanced. She stated the granite curbing <br />around the interior circle of the roundabout was accepted. Ms. Schmidt stated that, in <br />general, the proposal is compatible with surrounding buildings and structures. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Mr. Smith that the Historic Preservation Commission <br />recommends approval of <br />district standards. The motion was seconded by Ms. Ghasedi. The motion was <br />approved unanimously. <br /> <br />Ms. Emerick stated that regarding the landscaping of the roundabout, Mr. Nittler stated <br />that it would be low shrubs. She stated that if there was not enough funding, it would be <br />sod. <br /> <br />Ms. Schmidt stated that the Ordinance required Historic Preservation Commission <br />review of landscaping in the Civic Plaza Historic District. <br /> <br /> <br />3. Proposed Washington University redevelopment project near Delmar Blvd. / Eastgate <br />Ave. / Enright Ave. Demolition Review and Preliminary Review / Consultation <br /> <br />Mr. Greatens provided a summary of the proposal. He stated that Washington <br />University is requesting review for the proposed demolition of buildings as shown in the <br />submittal. He stated that the HPC acts in advisory capacity to staff and the action taken <br />review. He stated that in addition, the applicant is requesting preliminary review and <br />consultation for the proposed redevelopment as a whole and the proposal is for a <br />mixed-use / student housing development with ground floor commercial space on <br />Delmar Boulevard and student apartments. He stated that the goal of the meeting was <br />for a recommendation regarding demolition and comment and feedback regarding the <br />proposed development. <br /> <br />Mr. Greatens summarized the area including historic districts involved, the location of <br />47 <br />Page of <br /> <br /> <br />
