Traffic Commission
6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 862-6767, Fax: (314) 863-9146
be purchased by the City. This speed radar would only collect one direction of traffic data. Officer
Margul and Mr. Alpaslan agreed that this speed radar can be used at Mount Olive Dr.

Commissioner Brot moved that the City install signs to establish a “No Through Traffic” restriction on
Mount Olive, Ahern Ave and Wilshire Ave.

Commissioner Womack did not agree with the lack of petition.

Commissioner Hales seconded Commissioner’s Brot motion.

Commissioner Tunstall stated that potential hours for the restriction would be peak hours defined as:
7am - 9am and 4pm - 6pm.

Commissioner Wofsey summarized the motion to include the installation of the “No Through Traffic”
signs at the intersections of Mount Olive and Groby Rd, Wilshire Ave and North and South Rd and
Ahern Ave and North and South Rd, and for the hours to be selected at the discretion of the Public
Works and Parks Department, sometime in the morning and sometime in the afternoon.

Roll call vote was:
AYES: Ms. Creer, Ms. Brot, Mr. Hales, Mr. Tunstall and Ms. Wofsey
NAYS: Mr. Womack

Motion to implement the restriction passed by a majority of the votes.

Ms. Gutierrez clarified that since the addition of the area in question is subject to City’s Traffic Code
amendment, this issue will have to be presented before the City Council.

3. “Jackson Avenue and Drexel Drive” and “Purdue Ave and Drexel Drive” intersections
signage request

Ms. Gutierrez presented this item to reflect the sequence of events, existing conditions and possible
solutions for the below described request. Mr. Loren Grossman resident at 7350 Drexel Drive
requested directional signs to be installed at the small traffic circle located at the intersection of Drexel
Dr. and Jackson Ave and the intersection of Drexel Dr. and Purdue Ave. His main concern is both
vehicular and bicycle safety, especially at the intersection of Drexel Dr. and Jackson Ave.
Subsequently, a traffic request form was received from Mr. Derrick Coley, resident at 7365 Drexel Dr.,
requesting that no directional signs be installed at the intersection of Drexel Dr. and Jackson Avenue.
Existing conditions were presented for the intersection of Jackson Ave and Drexel Drive as follows:
Drexel is 22 ft. wide. Each leg, left and right of the circle is 16.5 ft. wide. Jackson Ave is 22 ft. The
traffic circle is 17 ft. in diameter. The circle has a streetlight. Small traffic circle narrows down the road
to a point that when cars are parked in front of the homes at the corner, they partially block the
passage through the sides of the circle (red car or bulk items in the picture). There are no signs
showing the traffic flow at the intersection to go around the circle. Turning radius appears to be narrow
and not wide enough for delivery trucks or bigger vehicles to go around. The tendency of vehicles
traveling west on Drexel turning left on Jackson is to take the left side of the circle due to the
narrowness of the right lane and insufficient room at the horizontal curve to turn onto southbound
Jackson Ave., which present an imminent risk of bike/car collision, when bikes ride north bound on
Traffic Commission Minutes – June 12, 2013 Page 3
