Traffic Commission
6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 862-6767, Fax: (314) 863-9146
Drexel and turning left on Jackson Ave on the left side of the circle, on the wrong side, however he has
not witnessed any accidents due to this.

Jerrold Tiers, 7345 Chamberlain Ave
Mr. Tiers shared a plan view of the area in question that he drew. Mr. Tiers stated that the structure
being discussed is not a traffic circle, it is rather an interrupted boulevard. Mr. Tiers agrees with the
need of parking restrictions and additional signage to direct traffic around the circle.

Pam Colson, 7323 Drexel Drive
Ms. Colson stated that it is important to note there have been no accidents that she can recall for the
last 18 years. Ms. Colson stated that the real problem is speeding in the neighborhood. According to
Ms. Colson 25 miles per hour is too fast for Drexel Drive,

Loren Grossman, 7350 Drexel Drive
Mr. Grossman stated that when he and his wife ride bicycles northbound on Jackson Avenue and
turning right onto Drexel Drive, they both have experienced the unsafe situation where vehicles
traveling west on Drexel Drive, turning left onto Jackson Ave face Mr. and Mrs. Grossman, to a point
where vehicles do not back up to allow safe movement to the bicycles. Mr. Grossman believes that
signs will alleviate his concerns to assist with the proper direction of traffic.

Commissioner Brot asked about reduction of speed limit, due to the proximity with the schools on
Jackson Ave. Ms. Gutierrez stated that is a possibility after some administrative review.

Commissioner Wofsey recommended approaching the voting independently for each Intersection #1
and #2.

Commissioner Tunstall stated the importance of signage when driving a large truck and how safety can
be improved if additional signage is installed.

Commissioner Hales recommended the submission of a petition to perform any changes in the
neighborhood. Mr. Hales wondered why parking is permitted around the circle, since he considers this
to be part of the problem. Another issue is the speed limit and how reduction of the speed limit can be
a potential solution to alleviate part of the concerns expressed by the residents.

Maria Grossman, 7350 Drexel Drive
Mrs. Grossman stated the importance to consider not only vehicles, but also bicycle users. Mrs.
Grossman asked for the residents of the area to always drive on the right side of the street.

Maryann Coley requested that a petition be submitted from the residents to reach a consensus on
what is the best approach to address the resident’s concerns.

Commissioner Hales requested that a petition be submitted to the Department of Public Works and
Parks for further review and submission to the Traffic Commission.

Traffic Commission Minutes – June 12, 2013 Page 5
