<br />G. SWEARING IN <br />1. <br />Donna Marin was sworn in to the Historic Preservation Commission in the City Clerk’s <br />office. <br /> <br />H. CITIZEN PARTICIPATION (Total of 15 minutes allowed) <br /> Dylan Allen, 7114 Stanford <br />Mr. Allen spoke on a need for a skate park in University City. He listed the upsides as: <br />good community interest; keeps skateboards off the streets; safer for the skateboarders; <br />and will make U City a desirable destination for families to visit area with a skateboard <br />park. Mr. Allen said a perfect location would be at Heman Park. <br /> <br />Jackie Womack, 7300 Ahern <br />Mr. Womack noted he was on the Human Relations Commission and stated the <br />commission needed some help as they have gotten off base. He said the Commission <br />needed more collaboration and to get on the same page. Mr. Womack spoke of a <br />special meeting that was not collaborated with the entire commission. He passed out a <br />letter sent out by a member of the Commission to Schnucks located in U City and noted <br />he was not informed of the meeting requested in the letter. Mr. Womack asked the City <br />Council to get involve, stating the Commission was very important. <br /> <br />I. PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> <br />J. CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br />K. CITY MANAGER’S REPORT <br />1. <br />City Manager Lehman Walker provided an update from the Corps of Engineers and <br />their future flood buyout projects. <br />Mr. Walker advised Council and the public as to what actions the City has taken with <br />respect to the recent flash flooding. He noted the flash flood affected 119 dwelling <br />units and currently 75 to 80 of them are still uninhabitable. Mr. Walker stated the <br />City established a disaster hotline; distributed flyers to all affected properties as well <br />as those properties that were affected by the 2008 flood; and the flyer was also <br />posted on the City’s website. He said the City will be waiving all permit fees that <br />would be required for repairs needed in the flooded homes. The time limit to fix the <br />homes also was extended from 60 days to 120 days. Mr. Walker noted a press <br />release was provided. <br /> <br />CITIZEN COMMENTS <br />Bobette Patton, 7901 Glenside Place <br />Ms. Patton noted she was flooded in 2008 and again in the recent flooding. She <br />noted when her home was flooded; it comes in every room as she has no basement. <br />nd <br />Ms. Patton spoke of the improvements made on 82 Street and wondered if the <br />Corps of Engineers thought about what would happen to the homes below. She <br />noted and appreciated Mayor Welsch, Ms. Carr and Mr. Walker being present to <br />view the flooding.
