Session 1688, Minutes <br />February 24, 1997 <br /> <br />Tree Pruning Contract: Bids were received for pruning 700 City trees. $22,000 was budgeted for this <br />work. 16 companies were invited to respond with six responses returned. The bids were as follows: <br /> <br />Gamma Tree Service <br />Ray's Tree Service <br />Custom Tree Service <br />The Davey Tree Experts <br />T&L Tree Service <br />Omni Tree <br /> <br />$52,420.00 <br />$38,500.00 <br />$38,750.00 <br />$31,556.00 <br />$28,000.00 <br />$23,600.00 <br /> <br />No minority or female firms responded. Recommended awarding to the low bidder, Omni Tree, for <br />$23,600.00. <br /> <br />Sprigging of Fairways at Ruth Park Golf Course: Two bids were received to sprig the fairways at Ruth <br />Park Golf Course. $16,000 was budgeted for this work. The results were as follows: <br /> <br />Ed Keeven Sod Company <br />Schaefer-Meyer Seed-Sod Div. <br /> <br />$18,500.00 <br />$15,300.00 <br /> <br />City Manager recommended awarding contract to low bidder, Schaefer-Meyer Seed-Sod Division for <br />$15,300.00. <br /> <br />Mr. Schoomer moved approval of the Consent Calendar. Mr. Ware seconded the motion, which carried <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />CONSIDERATION OF LIFE SKILLS FOUNDATION SOLICITATION PERMIT <br /> <br />The City Manager recommended that the Council approve the request of the Life Skills Foundation to <br />allow volunteer representatives to conduct a Tag Day in University City on Friday, April 25, and <br />Saturday, April 26, 1997. Solicitations would take place in front of businesses. They have a <br />representative at tonight's meeting. Mr. Ollendorff stated that Life Skills has completed their <br />application. They indicated their fund raising costs would not exceed 25% of the amount raised. <br /> <br />Mr. Wagner thanked the Life Skills representative for coming and was pleased that the fund raising <br />costs were estimated to fall under the 25% that is required by City ordinance. Mr. Wagner wished the <br />organization the best of luck in their fund raising activities. <br /> <br />Mr. Heberman said that he has been a supporter of Life Skills for many years and wished to <br />congratulate their solicitation efforts in front of businesses rather than door to door, a practice that he is <br />very much opposed to. <br /> <br />Mr. Ware made the motion to remove the proposal from the table. Mr. Munkel seconded the motion <br />which carried unanimously. Mr. Schoomer was excluded from the vote, having voted nay at the <br />February loth proceedings to table the proposal. <br /> <br />Mr. Schoomer moved approval of the permit. Mr. Wagner seconded, which carried unanimously. <br /> <br /> <br />
