Session 1771
December 20, 1999

STATEMENTS BY MISTERS LIEBERMAN AND WAGNER TO THE LINDELL RESIDENTS:

Mr. Lieberman stated to the Lindell residents present at the meeting that the Council did
sympathize with the problem regarding non-resident parking on their street. The Council
appreciates their concern. There may be several solutions available and the Council will
continue to carefully examine all the alternatives and come up with a solution that will
solve the problem. He wished to assure them that the Council would not sit still and do
nothing. The Council will try to solve the problem.

Mr. Wagner thanked the residents from Lindell that came to the meeting this evening. He
echoes Mr. Lieberman's comments. The residents participation is an important part of the
process. Council is aware of this very real problem. He believes the new dormitory
construction will only make this situation worse. Mr. Wagner urged the residents to also
come up with a consensus of what would be a good way to solve this problem that would
be acceptable to them. A number of solutions have been tried throughout the City, but
each neighborhood is different. Permit parking could be tried, but the City is reluctant to
do that, except as a last resort because it opens up a precedent that we do not wish to
propagate throughout the entire City. This will be tried, however, if that is what it takes.
He would like to hear more from the residents on this. He would to see a consensus from
the west and east ends on suggestions for a possible solution.

CITY CLERK'S DOCKET:

BILLS FOR SECOND AND THIRD READINGS:

BILL NO. 8443 - AMENDING CHAPTER 34 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE, AS
AMENDED BY ORDINANCE #6139, BY CHANGING THE CLASSIFICATION
OF CERTAIN PROPERTY AT OR NEAR 8644 AND 8650 BARBY FROM "SR" -
SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT, TO "HRO" - HIGH DENSITY
RESIDENTIAL OFFICE DISTRICT, AS SET FORTH IN SECTION 34-21, THE
UNIVERSITY CITY ZONING CODE.

The bill was given its second reading.
The bill was given its third reading.

Mr. Schoomer moved approval. Mr. Munkel seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as
follows: AYES: Ms. Colquirt, Mr. Munkel, Mr. Wagner, Mr. Lieberman, Mr. Schoomer, Mr.
Sharpe and Mayor Adams. NAYS: none. Bill 8443 passed and became Ordinance #
6222.

8
