The <br /> Missouri Coalition for the Environment, 6267 Delmar, applied for a permit to <br /> solicit funds that will be used to provide educational programs and statewide <br /> campaigns. The organization will conduct a door-to-door canvass from July 10 <br /> through August 13, 1990, during daylight hours, using about 15 canvassers <br /> whose names will be supplied in advance to the Police Department. <br /> Mr. Adams moved approval of the Consent Calendar. Mr. Price seconded them- <br /> tion, which carried unanimously. <br /> OONDITIONAL USE PERMIT - 7740 OLIVE <br /> The City Manager said Rev. Robert K. Buckner, pastor of the Living Word Apos- <br /> tolic Church, 7740 Olive, has requested withdrawal of this agenda item in or- <br /> der to have time to prepare a more complete proposal for the City Council. <br /> SITE PLAN - BAR JAMAICA JERK PIT, 7856 OLIVE <br /> Mr. Schooner asked to be excused since he has an interest in this agenda item. <br /> The City Manager said approval was recommended of a site plan for a Jamaican <br /> restaurant at 7856 Olive Boulevard in the new Westover Center. All City re- <br /> quirements have been met, and the operator has successfully operated other <br /> restaurants in and adjacent to University City. <br /> Mr. Price moved approval, with Mr. Wagner seconding the motion. <br /> Mr. Adams pointed out this is the third restaurant to locate in the Westover <br /> Center, and he did not want it to became a strip of eating establishments. He <br /> said he would vote against further applications for restaurants at this site. <br /> All voted Aye. <br /> Mr. Schooner returned to the Council chambers. <br /> PURCHASE OF POLICE PISTOLS <br /> The City Manager recommended the purchase of 79 Beretta 9mm semi-automatic <br /> pistols with nightsight system at a cost of $435.23 per weapon. The Police <br /> Department will own 8 of these pistols, and 71 will be assigned to and paid <br /> for by individual police officers. Department members have spent many hours <br /> studying and testing to determine the best weapons, and this choice is not <br /> only favored by the department, but was the lowest bid meeting specifications. <br /> Mr. Adams moved approval. Mr. Schoomer seconded the motion, and all voted Aye. <br /> Mrs. Schuman asked if it was customary across the country for police officers <br /> to purchase upgraded equipment such as this. Mr. 011endorff said he believed <br /> it was common for officers to own their awn handguns. <br /> ILle In response to Mr. Wagner, Mr. 011endorff said he could not explain the night- <br /> sight system, but would obtain that information for him. <br />
